  • bondo oversray

on my parents truck we have a big section that was fixed with (I think) bondo. the guy oversprayed and it got on one of the american racing wheels. I tried all metal restorant and it got some of it off. This bodo stuff is tuff stuff. the desricption of what this stuff looks like is grey with black specs. I can't use instant wheel cleaner because the wheels are not coated. Is there any product that i have not used yet.

P.S. I am not an autobody expert so i am not really sure what this stuff is i am just guessing.

    Re: bondo oversray

If this was done at a shop for hire, then before you go any further you might want to try to capture the overspray with a camera an perhaps looking to having them fix the problem?

If you start working on these wheels and damage/scratch the wheel surface in an attempt to fix the damage then that will be your fault. If you take the car back and ask them to fix it then the responsibility and liability is on them.

Not sure what to recommend as anything strong enough chemically to dissolve the overspray will likely also dull the wheels.

      Are these polished aluminum?

Or are they coated aluminum? (clear coat or anodizing)

mike this job was done at my house. my parents did not want to fix the damage to the body but his guy came up to my mom and said he can fix it no problem. I know a CHP officer and he siad they caught thses body fixer people that were doing these scams to pick up extra cash. i would have to talk to my dad about this to see if he has any info of the guy who worked on our truck. it is also on the glass very little. i won't do anything more to the wheels. i'll see if i can get some info from my dad.

        Uncoated alunimum

        Thanks Mike

I wonder if a pressure washer would be effective at removing the overspray without damaging the wheel finish?

o man ***** for you.... thats why you should never trust any random person off the street to do anything for you.... i had a friend who had a similar situation....paid $50 to some random guy who went up to her and said he'd fix those scratchs on her door.... he rubbed brake fluid all over the door.... good thing the car was a old beater that they didnt really care about or else it wouldve really sucked...

                Re: bondo oversray

Bondo is a brand name that is used synonomously with body filler. It's a thick putty substance that I can't imagine anyone spraying on. It's applied with a putty knife and then worked before and after it dries. Yes it is a very hard substance, once it dries, but I just can't figure out how or why it could be sprayed on.

It is possible that what you see is a high build primer which is sometimes used to level minor imperfections in the metal before painting. I have never heard of any kind of body filler being sprayed, it's not possible.

it could be a primer. i'm not sure. my dad told me not to worry because he said we are going to sell the truck the way it is. but i will try the suggestions you guys gave me. many people at my school like my truck because it would make a great work truck.
