  • 1st Q: 20, 21, 26, or NXT?

    I'm so confused.
I want the deepest, blackest, wettest look on my 1996 black Porsche 993. The car doesn't get driven much, and is covered in my garage when I'm not using it. I do not care at all about how long the wax lasts. I'll gladly keep re-polishing and re-waxing as needed. ( I enjoy the therapy).

    Is there a preferred combination?

I recently started from scratch (pun intended) refinishing the paint. I ultimately used 83, followed by 80, finished with NXT liquid wax.

What could I do to further improve my wet-look shine?

In my experience, its hard to beat the look that #7 topped with #26 gives.

83/83/NXT should give you a beautiful finish but it sounds like you want to take things up a notch. Do you have any pictures of the car as is? Do you perhaps still have some micromarring issues after using 80, or maybe you didn't get rid of all the defects with the 83/80 combo? If properly done, the car should look pretty darn stunning just after the 80 step. Of course, it still needs to be waxed, but it should look gorgeous at that point.

I like the idea of 7 followed with either a carnauba (26 or 16) or a synthetic (NXT or 21) topped with carnauba.

Mike, I posted some pics in the "show-off" forum: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...787#post174787

It looks pretty good, but here's where I'm coming from: once upon a time I thought my car was BLACK. Then I used ColorX. WOW. Then I thought my car was BLACK. Then I used 83/80/NXT and NOW I think my car is BLACK.

Unfortunately, I have this nagging feeling, that there's still more to be had. What the heck does Joe at Superior Shine use for product (in addition to simply having an awesome skill set)? I'd search to answer that last question, but there's too many Superior Shine threads to find the answer.

I was running through some threads here really quickly and didn't realize that was your car. Bottom line.......you - are - picky. Seriously, your car looks stunning, just gorgeous. But if you're wanting to take it up to the last little bit of WOW and be like Joe at Superior Shine, then you're absolutely correct - he does have an awesome skill set. They don't call it the art of paint polishing for nothing!! I know he makes use of a rotary for a lot of his polishing, and I do believe he's a big fan of #20 as an LSP. But, yeah, the man is just dripping with talent.

            (thanks for the good words)

I think I'll pick up some 20 to try.

              FWIW
              (For what it's worth)

If your Porsche has a clear coat finish, then the goal is to get the clear coat as clear and smooth as possible, this is what you doing during the cleaning and polishing step. After that you can take these results to a little higher level by using a high quality wax or paint sealant, the goal being to find a LSP, (Last Step Product), that takes your car's finish to its maximum potential.

Our chemists invest a lot of time into creating protection products, (paint sealants, waxes, LSP's, etc. whatever term you like to describe this category of product), and they're very good at their jobs.

The key is to do you best work upfront with the cleaning and polishing step, after this you can apply 1 - 3 applications of the wax or paint protectant of your choice and after that... it's time to stand back and admire the results.

NXT, Gold Class, M26, M21 are all great choices for LSP's; after you've applied two applications of your LSP... if you've done a good job of the paint prepping steps then you'll have hit a plateau, or a ceiling so to speak. This means your pant is as clear, shiny and glossy as it can get.

That's one of the signs of a true professional or craftsman... they hit a plateau where it's hard to take the results to any higher level.

After this plateau has been reached then it's time to sit back and enjoy your results and then do everything you can to maintain these results.

                Thanks Mike.

One last (is there ever really a last) question: What product, if any, is more agressive than 83 yet can be applied with the pc or by hand?

                Thanks again.

M83 is the most aggressive product sold in the Meguiar's line that is recommended for the PC. If you need something stronger look into a rotary or other product lines (although you won't really find anything that much stronger).

                    Re: 1st Q: 20, 21, 26, or NXT?

i think #7 or #81 polish topped with Deep Crystal wax is the way to go.
The polishes supply the brightnes, pop and clarity while the wax gives it a deep look.

The reason I substituted #81 for DC# 2 polish is to give it a brighter look also the 81 will last longer.

#81 and DC#2 and #7 are all pure polishes. There is nothing protective in them, so all would wash off quite quickly if exposed to the weather.

It is the wax layer on top that will seal them in.
