  • Vinyl Stickers On Body

I have a 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona that still has the factory Vinyl Stickers on it. Is there a Meguiars wax that would be safe to use on these?

I've read on ChargerForums about other guys using Turtle Wax Liquid Ice and Zaino. I've always had luck with Meguiars stuff (especially Gold Class Wash).

The stickers are a kind of matte black finish, and I'd rather keep them that same finish.

    Great question....

As a general rule on these and other types of vinyl, you really want to stay away from dedicated cleaners or even stronger cleaner/polishes on them....

We would recommend using NXT Generation Tech Wax, Gold Class Liquid Wax, or even Deep Crystal Step # 2 Polish . Any of these would be a great choice because they have no harsh cleaners in them.. Just be cautious around the edges, so you do not load them up with product

You can also use any one of our spray and wipe Quik Detailer type of product as well for the maintenance side of it...

Thanks man....I had been looking for a product I could wax the whole car with (stickers included) without causing the stickers any harm. I had been told, for obvious reasons, to stay away from cream or paste waxes on the stickers, but you think I could wax them and the rest of the car with the Gold Glass Spray?

Thats great, because I do love the Gold Class line.

I do pretty much like Mike said. Just watch the edges and you should be good. I have used NXT liquid and paste, Gold Class liquid, #21, #26, #16, pretty much all the LSP's and havent had any problems. When you are near the edges of the decal go the same direction as the edge, not against it. Also apply the wax from the decal to the paint, not from the paint to the decal. If you know what I am trying to say? Here is a photo of my decal, the gray hockey stripe is a decal.

That truck looks tight man. You don't run into any problems with paste or liquid waxes harming or discoloring that stripe? I guess I just always figured a paste or liquid wax would leave a white haze on top of the stickers...especially considering my stickers are matte black.

Thanks for the complement! I have had the stripe on for about a year and a half. I havent had any problems yet. I did a bit of research when I first got the decal and no one said anything about discoloring. I kinda figure that the wax helps prevent the vinyl from fading. With a matte black you might want to try a small area just to see if it gives it a gloss look. Under where the 6.0 is it says High Output in small letters, those are a pain. I have to dab the wax on and off. Some of the letters have the edges lifting. Now get that car waxed and lets see some pictures!

I am going to bring this one back from the dead.

My dad has a 71 Dodge Challenger with the R/T graphics on the side and hood. They are very similar to the Daytona Charger graphics when you look at them. I thought they had a slight texture to them and not a smooth finish though. When I am D/A the car with 80 do I tape the graphics off? Then remove the tape when I wax with NXT 2.0?

Go ahead and put a coat of NXT by hand? I would imagine that the D/A would be bad.

                    Are they the original stickers?

                      Re: Vinyl Stickers On Body

                      I have a 2006 TorRed Charger Daytona.

I prefer to only use the Meguiar's NXT spray wax on the vinyl. I just spray a microfiber towel and wipe 'em down.

I figure they are protected with as little risk as possible.

I also use Mother's Back to Black to make the decals pop out a bit more (and when I accidently get wax/polish on the decals while detailing the car). The key is to wipe them down with a clean microfiber towel after you apply. That'll provide the deepest color without being shiny.

I have heard people use Turtle Wax Ice with success - but I personally have not tried it.

                      Hope that helps.

Sorry - I didn't realize this was a re-post (concerning an older Mopar).

If I get wax or polish on the decals I just wipe them off.

I'm thinking if they are original stickers, you may not want to rub on them too much. Use a spray wax like EAT HEMI suggested, or very lightly rub a pure wax like M26 on them. NXT has mild cleaners, but on 30+ year old vinyl. Again, just to be safe.

Obviously, if I can wipe it off, I do too. But if it dries, it'll leave a light residue. I then typically resort to quick detailer. Sometimes, that still doesn't work. In those cases, i use Back to Black. BtB works really good on trim that has dried polish/wax residue too.
