  • Looking for an opinion!

    Hello Everyone,

I am a former professional Detail Tech turned long distance truck driver. I love the road, but detailing is in my blood forever. With this said, I decided a while back to combine my love for detailing, with my love for customizing my PT Cruiser, and as a member of PTCruiserworld.com, I decided to put together a simple guide to automotive detailing describing basic techniques, and utilizing chemicals that are both redily available, and in-expensive for my fello PT Cruiser buddies! I am a true fan of Meguiar's, and have recommended the use of the Meguiar's product line as much as possible throughout my guide.

I would like to invite anyone interested, to please check out the information I have put together, and give me your opinion. Is it good? Is it not good? What would you add, or change to provide better information on how the "do it yourselfer" can pull off good results in his/her garage? I know some of my detailing [procedures are a little antiquated as technology rapidly changes in our industry, and as such, I am always looking to improve the information I have put together!

Again the site I have posted on is:

Looks like some good stuff over there Don, here's the links to the actual article list.

We scanned all the pages and read a few threads, the one on buffing you wrote this,

Most liquid compounds are only effective when using a high speed rotary buffer due to surface friction, and heat.

You want to be careful about how you explain buffing, clear coat paints tend to be heat-sensitive, that is they don't react well when heated up.

Also, heat is not a necessary component of the compounding process, it's an unwanted side-effect, at least with Meguiar's paint care products. Our abrasives will break down under time and pressure, a lot of people in the Cyber-World are always posting that heat is also needed and this is not true, it's an unwanted result of the time and pressure.

    Make sense?

      Hey Mr. Phillips,

As always, I very much appreciate your insight, and wanted to say thank you for some excellent information on Buffing! It is always amazing to me that no matter how many times people go to buff their paint, they seldome really take the time to thoroughly understand what is actually taking place!

It is my intention to provide as accurate, and complete information as possible, and any more advise, or comments you may have would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I would like to promote all Meguiar's products in my article's. As mentioned previously, my overall goal is to use products that are both cost effective, and easy to find, as to relate to the Drivway Detailer. With this said, I have not been able to pin down a good APC (all purpose cleaner), Engine Degreaser, or Glass Cleaner from the fine folks at Meguiar's that is redily available at most large retail stores (Wal-Mart) for example. Outside of sending people to Meguiar's Online Store for these types of products, do you know of any good alternatives within the Meguiar's product line, that people might be able to find at their local retail, or auto parts store that I can direct them to rather than recommending similar products from other manufacturers?

One last question....I was always a big fan of Meddalion Premium Paint Care Products, but lately it seems these products are next to impossible to find. Have they been discontinued, or re-labled?

Thank you for your time, and assistance in these matters!

      Sincerely,
      Don Bedford

You won't find our Professional Detailer Line in consumer retail stores you'll have to look for distribution through a PBE store, an online vendor or find a substitute.

How to locate Meguiar's Professional and Detailer products in your hometown

The Medallion line of products were an excellent line of premium products but they were discontinued due to recently enacted strict V.O.C. regulations. In there place we would recommend products in our NXT Line or our Gold Class Line.
