My friend says he wont use QD on his S7

I was talking to my friend who isnt very knowledgeable about car care. He was telling me how he takes care of his S7. He said he uses some eagle one mist and wipe stuff. I told him to use meguiars QD or SD. he says he tried it on his S7 but it left a white streak or it left some sort of residue, or something like that on his clear bra(clear armor or similar). He says he uses a diaper or something like that to wipe it off I asked him why and he said that it is really soft and it does not leave any lint. He said he never had a problem with eagle 1 so he uses that, and he gave me some bull about how Saleen uses eagle 1?! He says he never washes the car he only uses the wipe on wipe off eagle 1 stuff. He claims it does the job and that is all the car needs, he never waxes washes or polishes his S7. He sys his 27 layer clear coat looks amazing and it is extremely durable. Anyway, what is the deal with the residue or streaking? I will talk to him tomorrow and give you guys more details.

Quik Detailer is the number one selling mist & Wipe product in the U.S. and probably the world, it's been around since 1981, it was the first commercial product of it's kind after which every other company has made their own knock-off. If you're friend is having a problem with this product then it's likely not a product issue, but something else.

It's actually not a good idea to try to change people, it's okay to discuss other options and new ideas but it's possible your friend has found the product he likes to use the most and if he's perfectly happy with it then having someone trying to change him might just annoy him versus get him to change.

Yes, it's true - Saleens come with an Eagle One detailing bag in the trunk filled with their products.....

Of course, I have the bag, but it's been refilled with Meguiars!

Some people will use a product and find it great . Other people will use the same product and find it bad. On all detailing forums you find people that will brag about a product, and others that will say that its the worst product that they ever used. Just let him use what he likes. Ive used Eagle One Wipe n Shine and its a good product. Mike is right, if you go to car shows, you will see most people using Quick Detailer.

Mike's right, trying to change peoples' minds doesn't work. It usually just makes them mad and more convinced they're right.

If he's happy with what he's doing let it ride. It's his car. It's his call.

If he doesn't wash or wax it and only uses a mist-and-wipe (anybody's) to maintain it I'm willing to bet it doesn't look too good. Then you can just park your glossy ride next to his dull, swirled-out mess and the results will speak for themselves.

Well, it isnt as if an S7 is a daily driver. Plenty of people with older show cars use only QD and dont wash, so it can work for only light dust.

Changing his mind isnt really going to happen, the best you can hope for is that he notices your daily driver has no swirls, and his show car does eventualy. Lots of people think that swirls are normal, and are a natural part of car paint. So at some point, you just have to hope he asks.

Or maybe get him to help detail your car one day over a few beers, or non-alcoholic beverage, and maybe he'll pick something up.

Ya, he says that his saleen has 27 coats of clear. He claims it "pops" like nothing he has ever seen. It is not a daily driver. And yes he uses diapers to wipe off the wipe and shine! I told him i will bring my arsenal over and i will do a side by side, and i will let his eyes do the talking. Why does saleen include a kit filled with eagle 1 and not meguias?!

Well, Saleen just makes cars.. A few bucks from Eagle 1, and Saleen'll give away anything they want.

If he does have 27 layers of clear, then he's asking for problems down the road. Ideally for most applications, you want the total thickness somewhat thin so it can flex. Too thick of clear will only lead to stress cracking, easier chipping and or peeling later on down the road. Paint manufactures have specific guidelines for a reason and I don't know of any major manufacturers who recommend even half that many layers of clear.

He's probably just trying to talk something up that he thinks sounds impressive without really knowing how many layers of clear he really has. All you have to do is measure his coating thickness and you'll know pretty quick if he's blowing smoke or not.

Ask him about the manufacturer specifics of which clear was sprayed. Then look at the tech sheet from that manufacturer and see how many coats they recommend for their recommended film thickness. It's not going to be 27 coats of clear

I asked him if hes sure, he told me ya he i sure. I dont have any feasible way of measuring his paint thickness.

The last time I saw Clear applied thick, and it wasn't close to 27 layers, it cracked! all over. It wasn't a very pretty sight.

Just because it is the Most Selling, does that mean it is the BEST? I have used both the quik detailier and EO QD and have to say I like the EO. Better smell, less smears. Yes, I use the them the same way. Sprayed each half with the same number of sprays, used 2 towels of the same lot and the look and the feel of EO was far more better.

Take that as you will. I am going to mix some ONR with some water and use that over the next few times and see how it compares to EO.
