I have been using Griots car care products for a couple of years now on my black vw passat. In particular speedshine quick detailer, complete polish system and wheel cleaner. If anyone is familiar with Griots I'm looking for Mequiar best product alternatives to the above mentioned. I need to make a switch as Griots is becoming an expensive habit. My wifes gonna kill me if I don't switch.

Need ideas from Mequiar's long time users.

    Thanks.

    Hi tspadano,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I'm sure our other forum members will chime in and share some of their favorite Meguiar's products, until then, spend some time reading through the different forums such as these two,

    Product Raves

    Detailing 101

I don't mind sharing with you that Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax, it is one of my all-time favorite products.

    I also really like

    ColorX
    ScratchX
    Ultimate Wipe
    PlastX
    NXT Generation Car Wash

It's just a matter of reading what other people think, then diving in and trying a few products for yourself!

    Again,

      tspadano.

I'm sure your post will offer lots of suggestions. Tell us more about your vehicle and it's condition. What are your goals? Some people want the best gloss and deepest shine, others want the most durable protection, etc. Do you apply by hand or use a PC? Is your car garaged?

You might want to run the Meguiars RX on their product website for starters.

For my vehicles I use the following.
      1. Wash - Gold Class or NXT Wash
      2. Clay - Quik Clay
      3. Cleaner - Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner
      4. Polish - #81 Professional Hand Polish
      5. Wax - NXT Tech Wax, #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax.

If you want a simpler three step approach you might want to try the Deep Crystal consumer system but I'd use the NXT Tech Wax for the third step rather than the #3 Carnauba wax.

      Again, welcome to the forum.

            new guy reply

            Thanks for your reply.

I have a VW Passat 2003 1.8T Black/black in very good condition my goal someday is to show the car. I love to detail every nook and cranny of the vehicle. I'm trying to mod the car effectively so as to not become a Tuner head but have a car that has a sporty touch of elagance to it.

I want to protect my paint and get the deepest shine possible. My car is garaged. (I'm actaully going to paint the floor this weekend) excited.

I do have a Porter Cable Orbital Buffer that I love. Depending where I am on the car I will apply polish and wax by hand. I have Griots and a mix of some other products from Autogeek.
ie: Mothers showtime quick detailer and assortment of others.

My goal is to use products that are equal to or better than Griots without the cost. I actually do use the Mequiars Gold Class wash once in a while which I really like.(Purchased at Target) Great smell, great price. Do you use the NXT Tech Wax as a quick detailer? or just a finisher. Will NXT have a total car care system? Sorry if these are bad questions.

            Thanks,
            Tom.

some of my favorite Meguiar's products:
              NXT Wash
              #80 Speed Glaze
              MPPC
NXT Tech Wax (it looks really good on black)

i agree with jfelbab, use Meguiars RX for a good starting point. the browsing through the 'Show Off' section or 'Extreme Makeovers' is also a good way of seeing what Meg's products other people use and the results they get.

post some pictures, especially those of the car under the sun, and it might help people make better suggestions.

Ahh, black, that special color. I just did this Highlander on Saturday.

The Highlander was in decent shape to begin with. I washed with NXT, clayed with Quik Clay, polished with #82 with a PC and applied NXT x2 with a PC. Removed with an Ultimate Wipe.

Tires were done with Endurance High Gloss. The owner wanted a glossy shine and I agree, shiny tires look better with the shiny black paint.

Wheel wells got a shot of NXT tech protectant and wiped off.

All vinyl got #39 and leather got Medallion.

NXT is a final product not a QD. I have begun to use the NXT Booster Spray Wax on my own personal vehicles. I use the booster wax after every wash or two to restore that just waxed look and feel. It can be applied to a wet car and buffed off or, as I use it, spray it on a foam applicator and apply very thin to the whole vehicle and buff off with a MF.
