  • 1st small messup?

In what is clearly the first of many missteps in caring for my car:

I washed my car last weekend. Before washing, I sprayed Megs Gold Class All-Wheel Cleaner on my wheels (so that it was applied while they were dry). I'm pretty sure i followed the directions. I went wheel-by-wheel; I sprayed it around the wheel, let it sit for 20 seconds (it said not to let it sit longer than 30), and then sprayed it off thoroughly with the hose. i rinsed it down pretty thoroughly, but i ended up doing each wheel a 2nd time b/c i saw more residue leaving, and then a 3rd time (quickly) for good measure.

but after it had dried, i noticed some staining on my wheels, as if the chemical had dripped down (the stains were all below the wheel, i took pics after a short drive teh next day). after i finished washing my car w/ GC car wash / 2 buckets / MF mitt, i used the remaining soap to scrub the wheels and tires w/ a sponge (no wheel brush), especially b/c i saw the staining (i did it 'with passion'). here are pics of the tires resized to 800x600.

I'm not sure what to do. I planned on applying a megs tire spray, but i dont want to "seal" in any stain. is there any way to get my normal tire color back? i'm not sure how this happened b/c i know the wheel cleaner wouldnt do this, and the tires were relatively new and didnt even have any dirt on them. and i rinsed the chemical off thoroughly. please help, and thank you in advance!

PS the salt grime on my car was because i had to make a short drive that night ruined my clean look.

thanks guys, please tell me what to do

You could try some NXT tire cleaner and a versa angle tire brush if you can find one maybe at Big Lots for 2.99

Just to be clear, you were spraying the All-Wheel Cleaner on the wheels, and the tires picked up this look as the product washed off the wheels?

If so, it looks like the cleaner might have washed off some product the dealer had put on.

Just get some Nxt Tire Cleaner and a Tire Brush (or soft toothbrush) from Big Lots, or better yet, a jug of All-Purpose Cleaner and a spray bottle and brush.

Then, just clean the tire before your next washing, and dress it with your own dressing after you have dried everything.

Yeah, I sprayed it on the wheels only. yeah it may be a product from the wheels themselves, no clue really. the weird thing is i'm pretty sure i sprayed this cleaner on my wheels a month ago and i didnt have this problem (i think i used it on my rims and my parents car's). as long as it goes away, im happy. i was kinda scared cuz i scrubbed hard w/ a sponge and the soap and got zero results.

Seems it will probly just come off over time and looking at it, putting tire dressing on it will hide it till it wears off. But I could be wrong.
