    First Time Posting:

I really like the look and feel of Quik Wax, to me this stuff really works great, I have yet to see any other wax that looks this good!

Questions: How durable is it and will it remove the wax that was previously applied such as #16?

"Hi-performance, spray on carnauba protection offers dramatically deeper, darker reflections with increased gloss and shine. Just mist on and wipe off to wax your entire car (wet or dry) in minutes."

Great forum and I really enjoy reading all of the car care posts!

    Thanks

    Hi Major,

Durability is probably less than a normal coat of a regular wax, not more, mostly because you're spraying such thinned down version of a regular wax. A regular coat of wax is thin, so a thinned down version is likely thinner.

If you're applying this product regularly, then durability is less of an issue because you're always refreshing your car's paint with a fresh addition of wax.

The main benefits of a spray wax is speed, convenience and ease-of-use, that is once you develop technique that works for you on your car's body style.

Quik Wax is a great product as we use it ourselves all the time.

Have you read the two threads on technique for applying this product?

It's not formulated to be a wax remover, but to add beauty and protection, that said if you take a polishing cloth and water and rub it against the paint with some force, the rubbing action and the abrading action of the cloth against the surface will act to remove wax not add wax. So it probably depends upon your technique which were sure is gentle.

You always have to keep in mind that when applying any product to the surface of paint, there are a lot of actions taking place on the surface depending upon the chemical, factors like type of material and how the material is being worked can affect the chemical you're applying.

A spray-on wax could actually be used to remove oxidation if you sprayed it on a oxidized finish and rubbed hard, it wouldn't so much be the product as it would be the force being applied to the application material and the fact that oxidized paint will come off easily in this kind of state.

In a nutshell, our spray on waxes are not formulated to remove wax, always shake the bottle good before using, apply to a clean, cool surface in the shade and use a high quality applicator pad or polishing cloth with a gentle touch.

Here are the two spray-on wax threads that discuss technique, looks like we need to fix some of the clickable links as pages have changed on www.meguiars.com and some links don't go to the right places.

        Mike,
Thanks for a very informative response.

I see what you are saying; I was using a microfiber applicator pad and probably should be using a foam applicator pad, since the microfiber has a little more aggressive texture. Other than that my application of Quik Wax is pretty much as shown.

I'll say it again Quik Wax is amazing stuff, the look and feel is really great! I use a flannel sheet to cover the back of the car due to the morning sun when the garage door is open. This flannel sheet keeps wanting to slide off the car, just amazing!

        Thanks

Actually, both the soft foam applicators and the microfiber applicators, (as long as they're high quality, we've seen some low quality microfiber applicators on the market), are both gentle to the finish, remember after a couple of sprays of wax onto the applicator it is now wet/damp with product and thus lubricated.

Generic cotton applicator pads or toweling will give a product more bite or aggressiveness as the fibers tend to be larger and less gentle to the finish than quality microfiber applicators.

Both our spray-on waxes are great products when used on the right condition paint and applied and wiped off correctly.

Just to note, we have had people try to use these types of products on neglected paint, paint that hadn't been maintained and needed to be clayed, cleaned, polished and waxed with a normal coat of wax. They didn't understand that before choosing and using a paint care product the surface condition must first be evaluated and then the correct product matched to the condition of the paint.

Our spray-on waxes are for finishes in excellent condition, not neglected condition, that's when we do our best to explain Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle and how and when to evaluate the condition of the paint on their car.
