  • Safe to clay brand new car?

    hi everyone,

In about a week or so i should be picking up my 2007 350z from the dealer. The car was ordered two months ago and it has been a long wait while it was being built and shipped over from japan. I requested that the dealer not wash or detail the car fearing that i would recieve the DISO(dealer installed swirlmark option) and i plan on detailing it myself by hand. I tried searching the forums but didn't find a clear enough answer. Is it safe to clay a new car? I had planned on washing, claying, cleaning the paint, and then waxing. This is my first new car and I want to keep it looking great for years to come so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks again.

    Hi:

Claying a new car is a good idea, never known what is bounded to the paint.

Good luck with the new ride.

Beyond safe, I think it's a good idea. Consider that the car will be shipped to the US via a West Coast port and then shipped via rail to the East Coast and then by truck to your dealer in New Jersey; it's bound to have some rail dust issues. Clay is the perfect solution.

Sure thing. Run your hand over the *new* finish and let your hand tell you if you need it. I just bought a 2007 Toyota Sequoia and one of the first things I did upon bringing it home was a good detailing, including a full claying and thorough polishing, waxing... Now, stepping back and looking at it, I should have paid more for this beauty!

I had to clay my new car after I got it. It had over spray on the driver sire door.
