  • White Mustang - Noobie needs help!

Background - Ultra White '95 Mustang, nothings been done to it in 4 years but stays covered most of the year. Very little rain and washed probably 10 times a year.

This will be done by hand. How does this sound?

    1-Clay
    2-Scratch-X (light swirling on hood)
    3-#26 Wax

Do I need a paint cleaner step or is the Scratch-X good enough? Do I need a polish? I get conflicting reports for white vehicles.

Thanks in advance - I am a rookie at this.

Order sounds fine. ScratchXing a whole vehicle is a lot of work, so you might want ot do part one day, more the next, etc, so you do it right, Dont rush.

ScratchX is a paint cleaner, so you are fine for now. In the future, you would want ot use a cleaner like Deep Crystal #1 as it is milder, cheaper, and easier to apply. Then just use ScratchX i nthe future when a scratch, etc needs some work.

Polish is optional, and with all the ScratchXing you have to do, I wouldnt worry about it. Next time you detail, pick up a bottle of Deep Crystal #2 or #7 Show Car Glaze, and give it a try, see if you can tell a deifference yourself on some test panels.

      I would do this

      wash
      clay
      DC#1(paint cleaner deep crystal )
      polish(Deep Crystal#2,or #7 show car glaze)
      protect(NXT wax)
maintain (Speed detailer or quik D)

Hmmm, so using Scratch-X over the entire vehicle is overkill? What if I were to use the DC#1 as the paint cleaner and Scratch-X where needed? The hood is really the only area showing swirls and there are a couple of scratches here and there but nothing major.

Would that make more sense to do that?

        Thanks for the replies.

Its not overkill, its just impractical. It would take too long and by the time you finish one panel, your arm will call it quits. Scratch-X the areas needed and go over entire car with DC #1.

Sounds like a good plan now.
