  • Altering the wand of my pressure washer...

Is there a way to alter the the pressure washer wand to make it shorter? I think that a shorter wand would be easier to manuver and handle. I didn't want to go altering it in case it would hurt the intended performance of the machine.

Just looking for some advice on this. Has anyone altered thier wand already? Care to give any tips or advice?

    Thanks,
    Nick

I have never done so, what brand of PW is it? For the most part power washer parts are universal so you might go to a local Hotsy dealer or power washer dealer and ask if they have something that might work. If there is a 'quick connect' on the hose you could easily change between the long and short wand. What ever you do want to make sure its safe!

If its a steel/aluminum wand you might be able to cut it off and re-thread the end and reinstall the quick connect for the tip, of course you would need the proper tools to do so or a friend with a garage full of tools?

Yeah, I understand what you are saying, and I have all of the tools to make this happen. Just wasn't sure if altering the wand would hurt the performance of the machine.

Also thought about removing the metal portion of the wand all together, and just attaching the quick conect end to the handle to make it very short and easily manuverable. I find it to be the most difficult when getting down into the wheel wells. And a shorter wand would make it very easy to get in there.

Thats interesting, that would be very handy... more of a 'pistol' type wand. You wouldn't think it would change the performance of the machine.

          Hey,

My only concern would be the control over the wand, but this depends on how much power (PSI and GPM) your washer is putting out. Too long and the pressure washer can really throw you around (I have an 18' pole extension for washing my house's siding andwindows etc and at 18', you have a heck of a time holding it!). Too short may also cause issues. If you are using a heavy duty model, you can remove the end of the wand from the handle and replace with another wand. Most of the time however, the replacements are longer which begs the question why?

Rather than cut yours, I would suggest finding a replacement wand. They are not that expensive, so if it does not work, you can go back to your original wand and keep working.
