  • Durrmaid Hot Water Extractor

I had a question for those of you out there that have tried this machine? What is your opinion of it compared to other mahines like it in a similiar price range. I am a mobile detailer with a limited amount of storage space in my car as I actually pack everything into a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix. (Currently looking for a larger work vehicle) I do all the work myself and wanted to upgrade to some sort of an extractor and was looking to spend 500-750 on it. I found the Durrmaid on ADS for 579 and the reviews online I read about it seemed pretty good, but wanted to know from some of you guys how it is and how it will hold up. Also if there are any other extractors out there that are better for that type of money. Thanks for your guys' input.

I have one of these units as well, I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think you can use a chemical in the tank, but if you don't use a defoamer, then your warranty is voided. I use just water and a little white vinegar to extract with since it rinses cleaner this way on the carpets. I use APC+ usually in a spray bottle at 10:1 and at 4:1 as a spotter, I work it in with a brush or use the brushes I have that install on the PC, then come back and extract. I like the machine as it gets the water very hot, but you have to run it through the hose for a bit when you first start using it. I don't really have any experence with other machines in the same price range, so I can't help there. I will say it does a lot better than the little green machine I used to have.

I couldn't quite tell from the description of the product, but do you need a separate vacuum as well, or does it come with a vacuum that can be used without the extractor? Thanks

          Re: Durrmaid Hot Water Extractor

I've been using mine for about a year now. Good unit but I feel that the 2 gal. tank is not enough when you have a job with carpet & upholstery. Plus it takes about 20-25 minutes to heat the water. So if you run out of water in the middle of a job like I did today you will find yourself waiting for more hot water. Do not put chemical in the tank and use the defoamer, if you do and don't you will void the warranty. IMO if you will be using the durrmaid every now and then it's a good entry level extarctor. I myself have been doing a lot more carpet & upolstery work than I planned on when I bought it so I'm upgrading to the Mytee Spyder HP60.

I think there are some other guys on MOL that use the Mytee Lite II that are happy with that machine. Not exactly sure what you want to spend but it's about $300 more than the Durramid. If I knew then what I know now I would have paid the extra for the Mytee Lite II.

So i think it sounds like I'm gonna go with the durrmaid, but i'm still unsure if this has the capabilities of also replacing my wet/dry vac that I use to vacuum cars. I am gonna wanna keep both so that I can soley use the extractor just for extracting (because I believe it can be used as a vacuum)? Right?

No it's not a stand alone vac, keep your shop vac to pre clean the carpet. The Durrmaid has a nylon catch bag in the holding tank that will catch any fine rocks, sand or debris that your regular vac does not pick up, but you should not run it dry as a vac.

                hey jarred767,

I have that same machine and it does an awesome job extracting nasty stains. If you have access to running hot water the heat up time will be less than if you use cold water from the hose. Like stated earlier DO NOT put the cleaning chemicals in the solution take and alway use a de-foamer. I use APC+ because it is designed for use in extractors(less foaming than APC).This was my mother-in-law's mini van and it was bought used with some staining of the carpet already set in. Some ares could of had more work done to them but I was running out of light. You will be able to see the dramatic turnaround. PM me if you have more questions about this machine.

Here are a few pictures of what this machine can do.

hey, sorry it took so long to get back to you on this... I've never measured, but I would guess between one and two cups worth?
