  • Is #83 worth the purchase?

I drive a silver 2000 Audi a4 and my paint still has minor swirls after two passes with #80. Would #83 be the next logical step? Also, i know this question has been asked a lot but i couldnt find a clear answer, would i need to follow #83 with #80? Is Audi paint usually hard? I think that is enough questions for one post. Thanks.

IMO #83 is a very good product and can deliver great results if used the right way, so I can say its worth going for the purchase. It is best to follow #83 with #80 to get that flawless finish followed by your favorite LSP off course. I'm sure more experienced people will chime in and give you advice specially Mike!

It would be worth the purchase 100 times over. 83 is an amazing process, if you're not quite getting the results your looking for with 80 I'm pretty sure 83 would be the next step up. (it's definitely mine) And yes it is recommended to follow 83 with 80 and then your favorite lsp to get the best results.
Just remember least aggressive product first, once you get 83, don't just use it first because you have it, only use it when you 80 won't cut it.

I was skeptical before I first used 83. By doing the process, 83 then 80 then my lsp I achieved the results i was after. So imho purchasing the 83 will be well worth it.

most aggressive product for the PC.

has to be really worked in. well worth it if M80 doesn't cut it.

Yes. Over the last 5 years of Saturday classes and often times at our Wednesday night classes everyone would witness the difference in cleaning ability of these two products as we would start out with M80 only to find out that it wasn't aggressive enough and then we would switch to M83 and successfully remove the defects.

M83 is not as wet a product as M80 so finding the right balance of pressure to time worked is different than using M80. Usually you'll have to lessen your downward pressure.

The answer is... it depends upon the paint, specifically how --> it <-- reacts to the products. From experience, most paints can be taken straight to wax after M83, some paints will look hazy and should be re-polished with a less aggressive product to remove the haze.

You really won't know until you do a test spot to find out how the paint you're working on will react. While you'll never find this guy making blanket statements that generalize paint hardness or softness over complete makes and models of cars, most of my recent experience with Audi's was that their paints were quite soft and prone to micro-marring.

In most cases we found that the DA polisher would leave micro-marring with both M83 and M80, these products would remove the defects but would leave the finish with micro-marring marks. These were removed using a tan finishing pad with either ColorX, M66 or M82 or M09

Actually had the best luck using a rotary buffer to remove the swirls and scratches using a tan finishing pad with M83 followed by the G100/PC with the tan finishing pad and one of the above mentioned light cleaner/polishes or cleaner/waxes.

I have some pretty darn hard hard clear coat on my 06 Chrysler. Without multiple passes of 83 it would still be swirl city, that paint laughed at 80. I can't imagine trying to buff out my car without it. It is well, well worth it.

Which one of these products would you reccomend to remove the micro-marring if it occurs? ColorX, M66 or M82 or M09- from your response above. I am only working with a pc and will probably use nxt tech wax.

I did mine with 83, followed with 80, then 21 (which is similar to NXT Tech Wax). No swirls and killer shine.

Seeing as you got an Audi, I would recommend #83. Audi/VW/Porsche are notorious for their super hard clear coats.

Go with 83. Yes, it can be a bugger. Once I figured it out the results are great!

Re: Is #83 worth the purchase?

I just polished a black PT Cruzer and had to use 83 because it had been driven up north for quite a while. 83 does takes some practice but Mike hit on exactly what I think is the key.

(You don't need to use as much pressure when using 83.)

I always have 83 on hand as well as 80, 82 and #7. Pretty much nothing that a G100 can do that these four can't handle.
