  • Uh Oh, is this a real problem ?

    Hi Guys

Panic has led me to this site.

I am preparing my car for sale. I had some scratches repaired yesterday and when the car was returned it was covered in dust/residue etc from the work.

I had it cleaned today and there is a problem on the drivers door.

It has a section, hopefully shown on the pic, that feels rough to the touch when running a hand along it. It is in a rectangular shape and also extends up the window slightly. It has "dulled" the paintwork. One good thing is that I am able to scrape it off the glass with my fingernail. Seems to suggest it is a residue of some sort. However it proved resilient to the car cleaners today.

I have a professional detailer coming round on Saturday for a pre-arranged detail. However I am having major panics my paintwork is/maybe damaged.

If it is a residue of some sort that comes off the window surely it should come off the door, without lasting effect. Any thoughts, comforting preferably !

Sounds like some sort of overspray. Yes, the Clay Kit is your best bet.

It looks like you need to clay it with this.

Those perfectly straight demarkation lines tell me that this is where the body panel was taped off for the repair of the scratches you mentioned and that what you're seeing is overspray. As the others have mentioned, a clay bar should remove this as the clay bar is designed to remove above surface bonded contaminents. The detailer you have coming should be able to make short work of this.
