Is it possible to overlubricate (use too much quick detailer) so that the clay will not pick up everything it could otherwise?

not really. you actually want it well lubricated. both the surface area you're covering and the clay bar. this helps in preventing any drag (dry surface which you clay over). you will feel it when you hit a dry spot. could marr the finish.

so NO. just spray it an area about 12 x 12 with a nice coat of QD, then spray your clay and off you go. work in small areas.

    hope that helps.

Interestingly, one or two of the Meguiars detailers are too slick, I think Final Inspection is one, and so need to be diluted for claying. But they never say dont use as much.

Last Touch is another. Needs to be cut 1:1 or it is too slick.

This may be a silly question but what do you cut it with? simple tap water or something else?

Yep, just water. I use bottled RO water, but any water will do.

#34 Final Inspection is great straight from the bottle, no dilution needed, I use all the time.

I would cut Last Touch with either DI water or distilled water.

Since you wipe it up as you use it you'd probably be able to use tap water and never have any trouble but I try to do it the best way available. (Plus, my tap water is really, really awful.)

I use distilled water with with all the detailer line. Don't want to run the risk of adding any water spots.

                    Re: Clay Lubrication

For the regular monthly Clay Session I do use a fresh batch of carwash, depending on how the surface feels I make the solution "thicker" or Thinner" for more or less agressive shaving action, does it make any sense? also it does save the QD for the in between shine and save a lot of bucks on the other side, you can do it with M00 Carwash too, thats the most lubricating carwash, or hyper wash for extreme savings or Mass Production let me know what you think, back home in the Netherlands they even made a herd of cost and dilution calculations for this resolution I posted on the MOL forum overthere
Progress is perverting an perfectly good idea!
