Just bought a bottle of GC Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner and a bottle of Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner. Both are in spray bottles.

I will apply the leather-care product the seats as well as the leather trims inside the car. The vinyl-care product product will be applies to the dash, console, and door/windows trims.

What is the best way to apply these products to my car? I am thinking to first wipe down the interior with a moist cloth, what do you think?

Sure, first wipe down is good. Wipe down with a damp cloth and dry off. Next apply a protectant, such as, NXT Tech Protectant,(use an applicator pad to prevent overspray), let soak in for approx. 10-15 min. and then buff off. If your interior is really dirty I would use something like simple green diluted 6:1, and then use your protectant.

I applied both products to my car earlier today using the hi-tech applicator pads. I wiped the vinyl with a terry cloth but not the leather seats.

The leather seats are now darker. Is this normal? I am not sure I like the darker color.

Did you use a wet towel to wipe them down? If you did the darker effect is caused by the water which will evaporate. The other cause could be the products. Most leather products in my experience darken the color when first applied and then in a day or two the excess is absorbed into the leather and the normal color returns.

No, I used a wet cloth to wipe down the whole interior the day before. So, there should not be any water on the surface.

Let's see in a few days. I am not driving the car in the next 2 days, so, absorb away.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

Leather should be routinely cleaned with a pH balanced, non-alkaline cleaner (a 6:1 solution of Distilled Water/ Woolite®) to loosen and lift grease, dirt and dust without overly drying the leather or affecting the hides natural pH. In addition to regular cleaning, leather requires regular replacement of its natural oils.


Avoid products that have an alkaline content, Simple Green is a high alkaline product and is not suitable for leather cleaning.

No I wouldn't use the simple green on the leather either, but I would use it on the dash and console. Just to clarify.
