  • Deep Crystal polish and scratches

    Hello all,

Once the Spring finally gets it's anus here, I intend to polish and wax my 2005 Black Mustang (My SN of ViperSRT is hopeful thinking. LOL.) Anyway, first off I want to try to remove those damn clear coat scratches that are pretty much EVERYWHERE! Now, I have posted questions about scratch-X in the past and I thank you guys for the links, however my question is do I need to use Scratch-X being they are just in the clear coat? I've heard many polishes will remove these types of small paint defects. Is the Deep Crystal I have one of those polishes or is this total **** to begin with?

My intentions will be to use: Gold Class wash Solution, Quik Clay(if needed, but I guess I should though right?), Deep Crystal Polish, and Gold Class Wax.

    Thanks for any advice,

    ViperSRT

P.S. What's the best way to clean those little applicator pads?

P.S. x2 What is the best towel to use for drying the car? I've been using old bath towels and they pretty much ****. I have one of those absorbers, but don't care for it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

    Sorry for the long post.

Re: Deep Crystal polish and scratches

You might be getting a bit tied up between different companies terminology.

Basically in Meguiars terminology, Deep Crystal Cleaner is very mild, and wont remove swirls, and Deep Crystal Polish is a pure polish, so it has no cleaning or swirl removal ability.

ScratchX is the best product by hand to remove swirls from the clear coat, single-stage paint, or whatever else.

    You would want to use:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. ScratchX
    4. DC Polish
    5. Wax - 2 coats if possible

PS1: I toss them in a bucket of dish soap and a couple inches of water, let them sit overnight. Then come back the next day, and rinse them out.

PS2. Water Magnet is my favorite. 3 is a nice number to have.

Do some reading here on our forum, type in the word

and read some of my posts on the hardness of clear coats. Like this one...

And please invest in some waffle weave drying towels.. the reason you have so many scratches is because of your bath towels!! MICROFIBER or terry cloth only on the paint! haha. Anyway good luck. and if you can afford it, invest in a PC!

Re: Deep Crystal polish and scratches

Well to get rid of your scratches I would recomend doing this: washing with gold class car wash, use the deep crystal polish, follow that by using scratch-x, then follow up a smooth surface clay kit, after that all you need to do is follow up with a wax like nxt. There are a few more steps you could preform but i gave you the summary. good luck and here is a link that might help you if you dont already know about it. http://meguiars.com/rx/rx_main.asp

You have actualy got the steps a little reversed... Be sure to give this a read over, so you get the full process down.

How are those Meguiars water magnet towels? Are they what you were talking about?

Re: Deep Crystal polish and scratches

There are two kinds of Microfiber towels:

                  Water Magnets for drying.

Supreme Shines for removing excess products, etc.

                  Both are quite good.
