  • New black 4RUNNER Sport bad swirls

Need some help. Dealer "detailed" my new near $40K Black 4RUNNER Sport and put swirl marks all over the entire truck. They offered to have it buffed professionally. But, what should I be looking for in a shop. I live near Fairbanks, Alaska. Thanks for any input anybody. By the way I am obsessive about my cars.

Here's a pic of the truck.

You can't tell paint damage in the pic though.

Honestly I'd invest in a PC and do it yourself... any dealer and most shops will just do more damage..

Cant seem to pull up the picture, but any good pics of the damage?

The weather could be a bit finicky up there to work in, but if you have a garage or something available, the best thing to look at would be doing it yourself. If they are offering you a pro, maybe you can just have them chip in a $100 bucks that you cna put toward a buffer.

nice truck. didn't really show the swirls. but the snow will be aproblem to do a good detail right now.

that's why i hate dealer buff shops.

yes. invest in a G100 and do it yourself. i'm still finding wax that my dealer put on from the time of pick up my MINI. so frustrating.

do it yourself. this way hard work pays off.

            Wash
            Clay
            M80
            M83 - if needed
            M80 if you did M83
            NXT x 2

that should take care of your swirls.

thanks. Will the 80 help with light orange peel? or would I need to do some light wet sanding?

No, #80, or any other liquid product wont help with Orange Peel.

so ultra fine wet sanding is going to be an added step for me if I feel like sweating off a few more pounds.

Bought a Ryobi 6" orbial buffer today. Got it home plugged it in and tried to stop it with my hand. This little $20. buffer just might do the job! 4800 RPM with no surface pressure and was creating decent heat on my hand while trying to stop it. Bought Scratch X, deep crystal cleaner, dc polish, NXT liquid, Mothers (sorry guys all I could find in Fairbanks Alaska) caly bar kit but will be using meg's quick detail spray to lube clay bar, 3 meg's supreme shine microfiber cloths for $2. each!

                    1)Meg's gold class soap
                    2)clay bar
                    3)deep crystal cleaner all over
                    or ?
4)scratch X (all over?) on tougher spots
                    5)deep crystal polish
                    6)NXT liquid

will be applying all with orbital terry cloth and removing with microfiber (maybe orbital for tougher removal stage)

Are these going to be the proper steps?
Thanks again for any and all imput! This web site rocks!

BTW nix the wet sanding. I am going to see how this comes out first.
