Used the ColorX/NXT method today....

I got ambitious this morning. I also decided to use a claybar for the first time today. The ColorX really made the paint "pop." However, when I applied NXT, I think I messed up. It was around 50 degrees with a breeze all day long. I let the NXT set up for ~20 minutes. When I wiped it off, it streaked horribly. Do you usually have to apply so much pressure to wipe off the wax or was it just the weather conditions that caused this? Either way here are some after shots. Sorry, sun was already behind the trees when I got finished.

looks like you used way too much wax. You should try applying it much thinner. also, you probably shouldnt wax in the direct sunlight.

Well that is ColorX in the picture. I made the mistake of treating it much more like a wax and not a cleaner. I don't think I put enough pressure with to get the results I wanted. Also, the sunlight was only shining on for around 10 minutes. When I started, that was all shade

Another question, How long does ColorX need to setup? Or is it wipe on/wipe off?

it's a cleaner/polish/wax all in one (work it in so the cleaner/polish can do it's job, and leave a nice thin coat), so it does need to set up just like a normal wax, and a good indictator is to do the swipe test before removing...

Ok, thanks. Will it be safe for me to simply re-apply ColorX on top of all this mess in the morning? Will any NXT be left behind or will I have to reaplly NXT as well?

Since Color-x has some cleaners in it, it will probably remove most of the NXT.

Waaaay too much wax there. You should apply a really thin layer. If when applying you think you put a thin coat on then probably that was too much. However, it's probably ok to put on a little bit thicker coat of colorx on because you're going to be 'working it in' but for an LSP it's gotta be thin thin thin.

As you suspect, that looks like ColorX not worked in/broken down very well, though at least it doesnt still look green.... but apply it a bit thinner and work it in well.

Then apply the next, and apply it thin, and still push it into the paint a little bit.

Your after shots dont look bad, but I guess you can see it better. A second coat, applied properly will remove any previous streaks. You may find that it takes a little longer to set up when it is kind of a damp 50 degrees, so plan accordingly.

And remember to swipe test the last place you applied the wax to, not the first.

I prefer to use it with the w8006 polishing pad.
btw, do we have to wait for ColorX to cure before applying NXT?

the after shots don't look to bad.

but, it does def. look like you applied way too much wax and didn't work it in properly enough.

this is one of those times when you should be working a small area at a time. a 12 x 12 square. work the product in. go over each square inch two or three times with a 50% overlap.

if you do the swipe test with the NXT then you'll be able to tell when its ready to take off the wax.

if you're using the G-100 you should have no problems removing it at speed 5 with faster arm movement.

if you're doing it by hand it should not be a struggle with SLOW arm movement. and then followed by a final wipe down with a clean MF.

work on your application technique. but you're almost there. just spread out the wax. a THIN EVEN LAYER.

Well, using the G100 will give you the best results but many of Meguiars products are designed to work well both by hand and PC(aka G100). COLORx can be used either by hand or PC giving you good results in either application. Applying COLORx will take some effort by hand to get the desired results.

Ok, now like a complete fool after learning what I now know and looking at those pictures. I will leave them up as a reminder of what NOT to do

I was planning on re-working it today but its still 50 degrees. However, tommorow is in the upper 60's and so is the rest of the week.
