  • Wash with grid guard

What is typical amount of water for a normal car wash? I can't use the last gallon due to the grid guard high.
    Thanks in advance

    I use a 5 gallon bucket and I would say I use 3.5 - 4 gallons of soapy water.

Thats one thing Ive never liked about the Grit guard... You cannot use all the water in the bucket.

Would they be anyway to cut the grit guard down so that its not so tall?

I agree... I use to use a 3 gallon bucket with my grit guard and discovered I never had enough water so I went to the 5 gallon buckets.

I would guess the 'baffles' need to be that tall to prevent the grit from moving above the guard.

Yeah, you're going to need a certin amount of 'dead space' at the bottom so the dirt doesnt get churned back up.

I guess that could be annoying in your soapy water bucket.... Maybe that is one more advantage to the foam gun...

Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that how the gaurd works?

I always change the water out half way through a washing, which helps to insure that you don't run out of water...

Yes, I meant that if you cut down the height of the Grit Guard as was suggested, you'd lose the dead space underneath it.

just one small disadvantage to the grit guard that I CAN DEAL WITH TO HAVE A FLAWLESS FINISH.

remember, a good wash starts the process and make or break the finish.

It also makes the rest of the work easier because it's helping to keep you from instilling more swirls and scratches in your car's paint that you are going to have to spend more time buffing out later. Definitely worth the $8 that it costs, and the reality that you might have to fill your wash bucket up once throughout the course of a wash.

Just my two cents: I use a 5 gal bucket, probably fill it with a little over 4. Been using the grit guard with no problems...haven't had a problem running out of water.
