  • New '07 Mustang - need help.

Been using Meguiar's line on my old jeep for years, great stuff.

It has been a while since I went through the entire 3-step process. Need some advice/opinions...

1.) I'm going to clay bar, paint clean, paint polish, and wax my Mustang tomorrow. Is it safe if I use the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, the #7 Show Car Glaze paint polish, and the NXT Liquid Wax for my trio? Will switching brands in the 3-step have adverse effects?

2.) I tried searching the forums, but to no avail. How often do I wax my Mustang with the NXT Liquid Wax? Once a month, every other week, after every wash? I live in the TX Panhandle, pretty dry, dirt/dust wind driven place.

    Thanks so very much!

    1. You are staying with in the brand, just using different product lines. All of Meguiars products work well together, so you can mix and match as you please.

    2. This is a pretty open ended question.Obviously, different weather, parked inside or outside, how often you wash, how gently you wash, etc, will all affect the durability of the wax. You should be able to last a month at least none the less.

      1) By replacing Meguiars DC2 (Step 2 polish) with #7, you are only stepping up the quality of the polish. It [I]should[I] produce better results with no adverse effects. NXT is higher quality (and more expensive) then DC3 (Step 3 carnuba wax). In effect you are taking a good system and making it better by using higher quality products. There are no adverse effects to this.

      2) The best answer is to evaluate the paint after washing and make this determination on your own. If you notice that the water isn't beading to your expectations, or a diminished level of apperance, its probably time to rewax. I find that NXT doesn't last very long, and personally, I never get more then a month out of it. Thats the trade off I find of the amazing gloss this wax produces.

To take this answer a step further, you could try using the NXT Spray wax (designed to be a booster) every couple of weeks to mantain the wax better and extend its life.

To take this answer another step foward, you will know when its time to redetail (steps 1 and 2) when you find that rewaxing alone isn't bringing the surface all the way back to that freshly detailed look. After your done tommarow, you paint should be in the best apperance it can be for those products. When you notice it fades, reapplying the wax should boost back to that level. When reapplication no longer brings it back, its time to start over.
Good luck and enjoy that new car.

Thanks so much for the speedy responses. I don't think I'll have time to totally detail it, busy day today and tomorrow. What I am going to do is wash, clay bar, and double wax it. So I will get pictures up as soon as I can!

Congrats on the 'Stang! I got mine in May of 2006 and it's a blast to drive! She's put away for the winter and will come out when the snow's gone and the streets have been swept.

Mixing the consumer and the pro line products won't be an issue.

Post a pic when you're done... here's mine
