  • My Starter Kit

Assuming there is no standard "New Car Starter Kit" (although that would be a nice idea), I'm trying to understand the subtleties of the various products, so I can stock up to start maintaining my new car. Thought I would use the NXT product line as a base. So far I've come up with:

    PAINT WASH
    - NXT Generation Cars Wash
    PAINT PREPARE
    - not applicable at this time
    PAINT POLISH
    - not applicable at this time
    PAINT WAX-
    - NXT Generation Tech Wax
    PAINT MAINTAIN
    - NXT Generation Speed Detailer ( for light dusting and removing surface contaminant
    - NXT Spray Wax (as a booster wax)
    WHEELS ( ALUM)
-Clean with Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner
-Wax with the same NXT Generation Tech Wax used for paint
    TIRES
-Clean with NXT Generation Tire Cleaner
-Protect with same NXT Generation Insane Shine Tires Spray
    GLASS
    - Clean with NXT Generation Glass Cleaner
    - Wax with the same NXT Generation Tech Wax used for paint
    CHROME
    -Clean with ???
-Wax with the same NXT Generation Tech Wax used for paint
    LEATHER
    -TBD. Too many products
    INTERIOR
    -NXT Tech Protestant plus ???

    Questions
    1) For the PAINT WAX, what is the criteria to determine if a paste is better than a trigger spray. Is it solely personal preference or are their difference in durability, appearance. Etc.

    2) For the PAINT WAX, can/should I use this same paint wax for the windows/chrome/wheels?

    3) For MAINTAINING, if I am using the Speed Detailer and the Spray Wax, what is the benefit of: Quik Detail Mist and Wipe??? Should I use the latter instead?

    4) For waxing the WHEELS, is it really okay to just use the NXT Generation Tech Wax, or should I be using:
-NXT Gen All Metal Polsyh , or
-Hot Rims Mag and Aluminium Polish

    5) For WHEELS, If I am cleaning with Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner and waxing , when would I need a product like : Quick Wheel Detailer Mist and Wipe??

    6) For TIRES , there is also a product called NXT Insane Shine Tire COATING. What is the diff between the coating product (13115) and the spray product(13124)

    7) For CHROME - Same clean/protect products as used for GLASS??

    8) For LEATHER - man, so many products.Wipes, Cleaners, Conditioners.Sprays, Solutions - HELP! I

    9) For INTERIOR - again so many products - HELP!

    10) In general, is a Meguires product that uses the term 'quick detailer' a cleaner or a wax or both?

    1. Personal preferance

    2. You can

    3. Use the latter

    4. Of course its ok, I think your confused about what a polish does though becuase of this question

    5. If you keep them clean you wont need it. I would use it for shows though so i could clean up the brake dust/grim when i get to the show.

    6. Reffer to ? #1

    7. Should work fine depending on how bad your chrome is

    8. Try them all and draw your own conclusion

    9. Reffer to ? #8

    10. Bit of both

I certainly could be wrong about this, but the only product that I know of that uses the name Quick Detailer and is a cleaner/wax, is in the Professional Line, #66. To the best of my knowledge, the consumer line Quik Detailers are just mist and wipe products to use when removing fingerprints, dust, or as a lubricant for clay, and do not offer any protection.

        Re: My Starter Kit

In reference to question 1... Keep in mind a spray wax is intended to be used in between traditional wax' (ie paste wax) not replace them. A traditional wax (paste or liquid) is going to provide the long term protection where as a spray wax will add shine, for the just waxed look and add some protection but not the lasting protection a traditional wax will provide.

        ------

FWIW, here is the process I use on my clear coated wheels: Wheels ~ the extra step....

To maintain the wheels I prefer to use a car wash soap like Gold Class Shampoo and water(no wheels cleaners). Once the wheels are dry I will follow up with a detailer, I just started to use Quik Wheel Detailer.

For interiors there is Quik Interior Detailer that works very well for cleaning then you can add a dressing/protectant like: NXT Generation Tech Protect -or- Gold Class Vinyl & Rubber Protectant (Just two examples of many!)

          Re: My Starter Kit

          Note the spelling of "quick"

Quik Detailer - without the letter C is our Mist & Wipe spray for removing light dust, fingerprints and smudges.

Quick Detailer - with the letter C is a strong one-step cleaner/wax that comes in a gallon jug in our Professional Line

            Re: My Starter Kit

OK, still on the learning curve here, so bear with me. For maintaining the paint finish in between washes, do I use :

            a) Quik Detail Mist and Wipe

            or

            b) The combo of NXT Generation Speed Detailer + NXT Spray Wax

            or

            c) some other combination !

Well, that is kind of personal preference/depends what you are doing....

NXT Speed Detailer is used to remove light dust and fresh bird droppings and such, its also great after a wash to remove water spots. Its a quick way to clean your vehicles paint with out a wash, again this is for light dust not a full cleaning. Its also a must to have a quality towel(s) for this process: Supreme Shine Microfiber

Now a spray wax is to be used on a freshly cleaned surface when a little of protection is needed and some added shine.
