  • First Black Car- Streaks!

I just picked up my first black car- Cadillac CTS-V Black/Black. The paint is absolutely flawless and I want to keep it that way. I gave it the first wash tonight using NXT wash and dried using my regular method of nozzle free stream of water followed by the Mequiar's water-magnet. I was shocked to see streaks all over the paint

What are my options for drying this thing streak free? Break out the leaf blower? Multiple drying cloths?

Usually streaks on the paint after washing is a sign you didn't get all of the soapy water off and it could also be a sign that you're using too much soap.

Drying removes water, whether it be with a drying towel of some sort of a leaf blower, the streaks, or the residue you're seeing would be something that was in the water, i.e. the soap.

Try re-washing and use one ounce of our any of our soaps to one gallon of water. Once ounce is about 2-3 cupfuls to a gallon. Wash and rinse one section at a time starting with the roof. Then dry.

We wash our black Pilot using NXT Car Wash and the only time we see streaking is if one of us overuses the car wash soap because he didn't measure it out and guesstimated instead.

      Hey Mike,

I don't mean to sharp shoot you on this but I think you ment 2 to 3 capfuls per gallon and not 2-3 cupfuls per gallon of water.

Good catch! Yes, we meant capfuls, not cupfulls.

Spellcheck never catches those kinds of mistakes, our most often mistake like this is typing form when we meant from, our fingers get moving too fast.

Another option would be to use a QD after drying. Plus this will help boost the shine!

I sometimes use QD while drying.

Along with the other suggestions, you should find once you clay/clean/polish/wax, you will get a lot less streaks as well.

Do you use fabric softener with your water magnet? If you do, that can also cause streaks.
