  • Claying

I previously washed, cleaned and waxed my 2001 Turbo Volvo awhile back in the traditional manner after not having done so in a great while. This was before joining this forum. After reading the recommendations about claying, I knew I needed to peform this step at my next wax session for completeness. (I never heard of claying before these readings).

Today, I clayed the rear deck and the lower plasticized/rubber valance panels of the deck, to see what would come off. YUMPIN YIMINIES!!!! The crud that came off with the clay and the soapy water!!! Incredible!!!! That was only surpassed by the feel of the deck!!! I can't wait to finish claying the entire car, polish it with #7, seal it with #20 and top it with #26. What a revelation!

Impressive isn't it! Every time I use clay I am surprised what it removes.

Thank you, Mike. I have to say, I'm completely floored by this. I just received a DA which I haven't used yet - I'm kinda old school having done everything by hand in the past. I have some #80 to use with the DA, and then its onto the #7, #20 and #26. I thought it looked good with a traditional wax, but JEEPERS!, I simply could not believe the crud the came off....amazing - simply amazing.

Thanks again. I do feel like part of the club now. Heh...

Whoever came up with the use of clay was a pure detail fanatic. I agree with you that it really is amazing the amount of dirt, gunk and grime our claybars remove. It really is one of the best products to hit the market in a long time imho.

Thanks! I feel as though I'm entering into an inner sanctum, an entire new world, looking at that DA sitting on the floor. I only have weekends, and sparingly at that, to indulge; but, I have unboxed it to put on the Megauir's back plate and I look forward to using the #80, or #83 as required, to bring the surface ready for polish. (A big thanks to Steve "TheFiveO" for the DA and the sample chemicals).

You don't mention what color your Volvo is but if it's a dark color, you better duct-tape your socks on cause their gonna get blown off! My truck is black and a 1999. It now looks better than when I bought it in 2000. All thanks to this forum and Megs products!!!!

Man that's true. you work faster than with the RB and suits most of the needs: from a quick waxing to a very detailed job. And combined with a freshly clayed surface, the products are applied easily and the results are amazing

                    Re: Claying

I finished claying the car and broke out the DA. I used #83, followed by #80 glaze. I then used #21 sealer and followed up with NXT. My car is a teal color. It looks better than it did when I bought it.

I have my camera but can't find the cable to transfer the pictures. I'm on the hunt for it, and if I can't locate it, I'll buy another one. I am simply stunned at the results, frankly. The car look wet and highly polished.

I just need to now understand if #7 is the same as #80. Both are glazes I believe. I'm starting to understand the line a little better I think.

                    Anyway....WOW!!!!!!!

#7 is a pure polish with no cleaning ability. #80 is rich with some of the same oils as #7, but with cleaning power. 7 is a polish and 80 is a cleaner/polish.

                            And #20 versus #21?

#20 is a blended wax with some cleaning ability.

#21 is a purely synthetic wax, not much cleaning ability.
