  • Wax use question

A couple months ago, when i didnt knew much about Meguiars, a friend recomended me Brand and told me to get a can of wax and tryed it, i wne to the local store and bought a can of A1214 Cleaner wax, and it worked perfect, then a few weeks ago i decided to get DC#1, #2, #3, did tryed them and results were wonderful.

My question is, i read about Cleaner wax being a little of everything, that is was to be used a a 1 step process mostly, correct me if im wrong please.

Let say i want to do 1,2,3 monthly, let say on week #4, can i use the cleaner wax on week #2 just to keep the shining? or will it be bad for the 1,2,3 process?

I just dont know were to fit the cleaner wax, as DC#3 is a 100% wax.

    Thanks!

    Re: Wax use question

Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax is a very light cleaner/wax and for this reasonit makes for a great maintenance wax. You also want to remember that if your car is a daily driver then the wax on your car is always wearing off so it's not like all of the DC3 coating is going to be there when you gotouse the cleaner/wax. The important thing is to find products you like and use them often.

Thanks Mike, but then you are saying that it will be better to get another tipe of wax for week#2 ? if that is the case what would you recomend?

I just was asking cause i didnt wanted to screw what DC1,2,3 did.

FYI, yes it is a daily driver

      Thanks

        Re: Wax use question

To add to Mikes answer, you can look at it a few different ways, and have a few different processes that you can use, for instance:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay as needed
        3. Clean - DC#1
        4. Polish - DC#2
        5. Wax - DC#3
        6. Wax - DC#3 - Remember, Meguairs recomends 2 coats of wax.

        or:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay as needed
        3. Cleaner/Wax
        4. Wax - DC#3

Both of these will give good results, and the recomended 2 coats of wax, but the cleaner/wax can cut out a few steps to speed things up a little for faster details.

For very quick details, you could just

        1. Wash
        2. Cleaner/wax

but then you wont have the recomended 2 coats of wax, if that is important to you.

No matter which process you use, if you wash every week, or every other week, you can use a spray wax or quick detailer to give that fresh gloss back if you like. Or, if you are confident that your cars surface is very clean, you could add another coat of DC#3.

So you arent going to screw anything up by using a cleaner/wax, but you just have to fit it in to what you want to do. Because it has cleaners, it will remove the older wax, but that doesnt mean you are hurting anything, as long as you understand the complete process.

          Re: Wax use question

Thanks Murr1525! that plan i can follow, I didnt knew about the 2 coats of wax, will do that this week end.

I bough a bundle that comes with clay and Quick detailer and that worked great, clay came really dirt, and now im just using the detailer for regular maintenance.

Ill try to post some pics of the result.

          Thanks again

            Re: Wax use question

            One thing I didnt mention...

You will tend to get better results by using sperate steps, that is, a product that does a specific job like the seperate cleaner, polish, and wax.

All-in-one products wont give quite the same level of results, but make up for it by being quicker. Obviously there has to be a trade off.

So, if you do a little of both, regular 'full details', and some 'quick details' in between, you will be able to get the best of both.

              Well technically, Meguiar's always teaches people to evaluate their car's finish to decide which product to use. This circles back around to is your car a;
              • Daily driver parked outside exposed to the elements and all the contaminants that are in the air.
              • Garage Queen, only sees the light of day on sunny Sundays

The idea being is Deep Crystal Carnauba wax is a pure wax and should only be applied to a finish in excellent condition, if you go two weeks in-between washing and waxing and your car is a daily driver then before you wash the car and apply a pure wax to the paint you'll want to feel the paint for bonded contaminants and if discovered remove them before using a pure wax. Because a pure wax offers no cleaning ability it doesn't clean or remove contaminants very well if at all and will tend to coat over and seal in impurities and contaminants into and onto the paint.

A cleaner/wax on the other hand will remove impurities and contaminants as you use it.

So which wax you use kind of comes down to how you use the car and how dirty the environment you live in is. Thus this is why the A12 is a good maintenance wax, it offers light cleaning which is great for daily drivers while still creating a show car shine that will be on par to most other waxes.

A12 is actually a great wax, it's been around since 1973 and if you use it often as a maintenance wax your car will always look brand new. At a suggested retail price of $6.50 we would put it up against most waxes on the market, even waxes costing much much more.

Not sure what the problem is? Here's a before picture,

We don't have the gallery set-up for people to delete photos as it tends to leave Red X's on our forum and anywhere the member has posted the picture before deleting.
