  • Best Polish/Cleaner with an older Orbital to remove swirls ?

I have a 92 Miata with a single coat yellow paint.
I plan to wash, clay, polish, glaze and wax.

The rear deck has some bad swirls .

I have a 9 inch orbital buffer/polisher that rotates at abot 2800 Orbs/sec. I have no plans purchase a PC because if that was the case I would just rather pay a pro. Normally for my daily drivers I'm lucky if I wax twice a year.

What would be the best product to remove swirls with the orbital ? I would try DACP but it seems like that product likes a PC better. However there are some people that do get great results with DACP by hand and I am willing to do that effort for the 2X4 rear deck. I did try a little #1 med-cut cleaner on the trunk and some swirls came out. Should I just continue with the #1 and follow up with ScratchX ?

If I use DACP and the orbital on the rest of the car will I make matters worse as fars as swirls are concerned ? They don't seem too bad on the rest of the car but there is some oxidation.

Maybe I should use ColorX/NXT for the rest of the car or a Cleaner Wax ?

    Thanks,
    Rich

I've used DACP with an "older" orbital. It took some time, but I managed to get good results. If the DACP would leave some hazing, you should be able to get it out with #81 or #82.

If the rest of the car is pretty much OK, you might want to try #81 or #82 instead before trying DACP.

Don't sell your "old" machine short. For a "normal" person, the results that you get with one are just fine. It's just those of us with "chronic detailing disorder" that seem to have problems with them. We need our pc therapy.

      Hey,

If you are willing to put the time and effort in, then I too would suggest that you give #83 DACP a try. It will take a fair amount of time to break down with an orbital. Plus, you will probably have to follow up with #82 Swirl Free Polish. But the results will be worth it!!!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner and Meguiar's consumer line of cleaners will work well with an orbital too.
