  • 2003 red Liberty

I decided to detail my wifes Liberty today. I used cleaner, polish & liquid gold.

The hood is still pretty rough. I couldn't get all of the rough stuuf off.

Sould I use clay to get this stuff off? If I clay, do I have to use a polish afterwards or can I just go staright to wax?

IMO I think you should clay it and for me again it would be better to polish then wax.

I would Clay, but after you have clayed the car you might want to evaluate the finish.
Wash, Clay, Paint Cleaner (if required), then Polish and finally two thin coats of Wax.

The "rough stuff" you're feeling is bonded contaminants, and clay is the correct tool to remove this. Polishes and cleaners work on below the surface issues. Keep in mind that the process of claying will strip the wax you just applied so that will have to be reapplied. After claying but before waxing, re-evaluate the finish to determine if you need to use the cleaner again. You may not need to, but if the bonded contaminants are really heavy then you earlier cleaner step may not have been as thorough as you'd like. Ultimately though, that decision is yours to make. Definitely wax though, no matter what else you do or don't do after claying.
