  • Ford Paint Hard?

    Hello all,

I have a 2001 Ford F-150 XLT with the original factory Oxford White paint. I know that saying that the paint on Fords is hard could be dependent of the vehicle, but anybody leaning towards hard or soft?

I am planning on doing a buff out tomorrow and kinda want to know what I am in for...

    Thanks

P.S. Its it okay to 80 then 83 if necessary or should I start out with 83 anyways?

Id say its pretty hard my rangers is so hard yet so easy to put swirls in it... My paint is just red.... lol not toredor (spl) red just bright red and it looks really good but its hard to get rid of the swirls... but Im doing all my processes by hand with clean equipment adn its nearly impossible to get rid of the swirls and minor scratches by hand scratchx and colorx barely put a dent into the paint... and I used a lot of passion with no avail... let me know how it goes

Well I have done the truck before by hand and had almost no results, but I now have a PC and wondering if I should even try to get the swirls out. When I first did the truck by hand, I was sick so I am sure that I wasnt doing my best or putting all the passion in, so thats problably why I got the results I did...

I will post pics tomorrow when I am done

              Re: Ford Paint Hard?

This may not be much help. I started the process on my 93 F-150 last week. Its also white and I let the finish get a little oxidized. Its been garaged for the last five years until this fall and its only been waxed once in those five years. It also has some water spots from sprinklers at work. I started with QEW, but it really needed a better wash than the QEW could provide. Then clayed the cab and hood. On the back of the cab just above the rear glass has some paint failure. So its showing a primer spot and I can tell this area has thinner paint. My primary goal was to remove contaminants and oxidation. The paint had a tan layer of film and needed cleaning badly. It polished up pretty good with m80 and removed most of the swirls. I'm going to try and get it washed again tomorrow and hit the hood with 80 again. I think the reason I was so pleased, was because the condition of the paint was bad to begin with. In my case, m80 will be sufficient. The paint seemed to respond well with the pc and m80, but then again, I'm still quite the novice.
