  • Removing Scratches - Will ScratchX Be Enough For This?

Over the weekend, I washed my Mini with NXT, but noticed a scratch :

I attempted to remove it by using some ScratchX, then putting some NXT Spray Wax on to, and this was the result:

As you can see, a great improvement, but not totally gone. If you gently run a finger nail across it, you can just feel it.

So, what I'd like to know is, will another good application of ScratchX and NXT Spray Wax be enough to remove it totally, or wll I have to resort to professional help?

    Thanks,

    Dave.

    Hi daveabrey,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

From the picture, the scratch looks pretty serious?

How did you apply the ScratchX? Did you work it against the finish? I find that 2-3 applications are necessary for deeper scratches using medium pressure. Remember, as you work this product, the microscopic diminishing abrasives break down and it quits removing the scratch and starts polishing it. Thus the reason for more than one application.

    Here's a how-to article I wrote that might help...

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

If this doesn't work, then either a porter cable dual action polisher or a rotary buffer will be required. Note: Not all scratches can be completely removed. Often times they can be improved, but not removed.

    Hope this helps...

I would say you need a PC and something like DACP to get that out. Scratch X never really satisfied me but I have hard paint

Thanks for the replies guys .

        Mike,

I think the pic makes it look worse than it is . I just applied one the ScratchX one, rubbed it in for a minute or so (but only fairly gently I think), then wiped down. So I think I'll give it another couple of applications, and see how it looks after that.

        Cheers,

        Dave.

          Hi Dave,

Use a couple more applications of Scratch X. Follow Mike's excellent article on how to use the product and you will probably be just fine!
