I just bought myself a bottle of scratchX. Before i use it, i have a few questions. After applying the scratchX, what do i do? do i have to wax the area afterwards? I'm totally new to car maintanence. If wax is required (and polish??) , which wax is easy to use (apply and wipe off)? I am a complete newbie so please bare with me :P i'm so scared that i will screw up my new car.

Re: question regarding scratchX
ScratchX will take a little work but it will give you results and here is some good reading on ScratchX: How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX -or- How To Remove Swirls By Hand
Its not totally necessary to polish after but if you want to add a little more pop you can add a polish after ScratchX. Now keeping in mind ScratchX is only a cleaner/polish (not a wax) you need to apply a wax to protect the surface after ScratchX (or after your polish), really doesn't matter what wax, pick your favorite one... Here are a few good options in Meguiars consumer line: NXT Generation Tech Wax, Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax or Deep Crystal System Carnauba Wax. Of the three NXT is my personal favorite, very easy to apply and very easy to remove and it will give you great results!

Re: question regarding scratchX
will "Quik Wax" (link: http://www.meguiars.com/?spray-car-waxes/Quik-Wax) do? or is it best to use a paste or liquid wax instead of spray?
also, is it easier to use liquid than paste?

Re: question regarding scratchX
I have just replied to another post so I will copy and paste it here......
When using ScratchX I use a 8 inch square piece of terry towel folded over, I find it has more bite than a foam pad.
Only work a small area at a time, about 1 foot by 1 foot. rub across the scratch and use a fair amount of pressure, rub until it turns clear, wipe off and examine the area, if the scratch is still there keep repeating until its gone.
If you aren't puffing and your arms don't ache, then your not working it properly.

Re: question regarding scratchX
WELCOME TO MOL!!!
now you need to put some passion behind your work. that's a nice word for working hard. and yes work in LITTLE SECTIONS. 1 x 1 is good. and put some passion into your work and then move to the next section once its gone. i worked ona scratch once on a JEEP, took 45 minutes for this scratch put it worked. so it was worth the time.
next thing you need to do is read those links that were posted for you.
when i've used scratch x i've done the following.
Wash
Clay
Scratch X
Paint Cleaner
Paint Polish
NXT x 2
if you dont want to use the paint cleaner or polish you can go right to NXT.
would i do that. probably not. but some people do. it won't do any damage you just won't have that same effect as if you did all 5 steps.
if i'm in a hurry i've done the old.
wash
clay
NXT x 2
but the next time i do a wax i make sure i clean and polish the entire car.
cheers
best of luck
