  • New Touch Up Applicators - Anyone Use Them?

The BMW dealer I work for bought some sample applicators from his paint shop and they seems to work fantastic!

The tip is a microfiber "puff" that is re-usable and allows filling of stone chips and scratches. I've been having problems with using touch up paint (especially metallics) and the conventional: apply a blob and level with a rubber squeege. My problem has been cleaning up the excess area on metallic paints as the color changes.

The paint shop recommends applying a base color with this applicator and, after drying, apply clear + hardener mix.

He said after the clear dries, you can compound/polish the area as the clear is a barrier for the color base.

Anyone use these applicators and methods? Any tips or process tricks?

    Thanks in advance.

Yep, I've used them. For really small chips, I have removed a bit of the fiber.

Where did you get them from?
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Thanks for the info Tom: I'll have to try removing some tip material on the really small chips.

          I have tried those before!

I got mine in a kit for repairing rock chips. I think It came with 2 of those a small bottle of clear and a sanding pen

I can't comment on how well they work, because my touch up paint doesn't match my car's actual colour

I have used a similar product for some time and you will find it's still a touchup paint job, even with those. They are handy, but paint touchup is still a pretty iffy thing. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not so good.
I also have used the Langka product with mixed results.

The touchup applicators are available at most true body & paint supply stores in my area.

Great! This is exactly what I need right when I need it!

              Thank you!

                I’ve gotten them from Eastwood (eastwoodco.com), item# 34112.

Griot’s sells them in two sizes.
