  • White Rim Cleaning Help

    HI

I am new to this forum and just used Meguiars Gold Classic Wax for the first time. I love it. I'm gonna try to do the 5 steps in the spring when its warmer.

My question is related to my white rims. I have some hard tar/brake dust?? settlements that have stuck to the inside of the rim and won't come off by scrubbing. Is there a Meguiars product that I could use to make it easier? After using the product, do I need to apply a wax/clear coat to the rim again for protection?

Here is a picture of the rim (sorry for not resizing the picture).

      Welcome to the forum,

Well, I would suggest using the Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. You can also try the Wheel Brightener from the Detailer series.

If you don't feel safe using chemicals on you rims, you could always use a clay bar. I personally use claybars because each of my cars that I work on have different wheel coatings. I don't want to ruin a perfectly good rim.

If this doesn't help, I'm sure many others will chime in to give you a definate answer. You've come to the right place!

Here is how I car for my wheels: Wheels ~ the extra step....

I have a similar contaminate on the inside of my wheels, I was able to remove most of it but there are still some spots that are baked on. My vote is for clay as well, its dirty work but in the end its well worth it! I do everything I can to avoid wheel cleaners, just my preference nothing against Meguiars line of wheel cleaners I just prefer good old Gold Class Soap and water for everyday cleaning and once a year do a full detail on the wheels.

Is the white coating paint(clear coat) or another type of finish?

I believe it's white paint with a clear coat on top. I already got a few scratches on the front side so I know it's not powder coated.

Thanks for the tips on the clay bar everyone. I'll try it.

White after labour day? Maybe I should paint it blue. lol

If they are clear coated treat them as you would paint on your vehicle. Just my opinion.
