I have not been much of a car fanatic in the past. I drive a old 1988 Acura Legend. I don't have a big commute and also for years bike commuted to and from work. So the miles are still only about 90 thousand. On a recent work related trip I rented a new car and that spiked my interest in getting a new car, a Dodge Charger. (OK not the best choice perhaps).
Anyway that started the whole spousal debate over money and all. I reflected on it and realized I still like my car basically, it's a stick shift. So I decided to just "make the old car the new car". First I put in a good after market sound system (Alpine with bass) and then I had it repainted from the old white to a color which I would characterize as "Highlighter Green". I love it but my teenage daughter will jump over any hurdle to avoid riding in it, my wife uses it as evidence I shall have no say in any house design decisions ever again.
So the paint has sat for a while and I called the car paint business and asked them for recommendations. The guy recommended "Turtle Wax or Meguiar's....actually get Megaairs". So I just ordered a bunch of materials and will let you know how it turns out, or ask questions as I go. If I get ambitious I'll even send in pre/post pictures.
Next I need to move on to the interior. The light brown leather and carpet don't match the exterior green. The carpets need to be cleaned, etc. My plan is to find some good black seat covers and also repaint the carpet/vinyl/leather all black. If I get ambitious or creative I am even pondering using some sort of Bedazzler to put in some stones (though fearing in an accident some ruby colored stone will impact itself in my forhead and at the hospital they'll call in a Hindu Priest to see me.)
I have questions as to how to proceed with the interior---how to clean and repaint the carpets/vinyl/leather, good place to buy seat black seat covers, etc. Should I post here or to another forum?
Thanks,
Jeff
