I painted my truck over the last year (1977 Ford F-150). It was a backyard job. It turned out great, considering what it looked like before. I used a base coat/ clear coat system. Well, I ended up getting a mist of clear coat all over the windshield which made it look very dirty and WOULD NOT come off with anything. I thought I was going to have to buff buff buff and rub rub rub with something for hours and hours to get it off, or replace the glass. I had it on all sides. It seems the clear coat has a way of getting through all your masking while the base coat didnt give me this trouble.
I was driving home this morning after taking the kids to school, realizing I had a state inspection due on this truck I painted that is sitting in my driveway.. I didnt think they would pass it because you could hardly see out of the windshield if the sun were just right, or if any window was wet. THEN IT HIT ME!!! I had one last shot to try. A Jar of clay (Blue Meguiar's Clay) was sitting there on the shelf for over a year. It was cold and chilly and the clay was stiff. I grabbed the Quick detailer (which had collected dust) and tried a small spot on the windshield.
It sounded like sandpaper as I rubbed lightly on the clay, I was none too hopeful it would work. Then the clay began to glide smooooothly without the sandpaper sound or feel. I wiped off the windshield and I almost Shat myself

The windshield was as clear as it was when it was new!! In 30 minutes I had all the glass on the truck looking like brand new!! Years of crud embedded in the glass came off with ease. Overspray, tar, grease, whatever. The glass was as slick as...... well, Glass!
You saved me countless hours of work, and God knows how much money and stress. This glass is 30 years old. I am going to do the inside surface soon.
You would not believe (or maybe you already do) how much clay can help with optical clarity by removing years of road ****, and those annoying little spots that re-appear when the window is wet.
Thanks Meguiar's
