I recently detailed my cousin's 350Z....it turned out alright, although there are some swirls on the trunk...or whatever it's called. I already waxed it and I saw the swirls afterwards, can I still use ScratchX even though I already waxed it?

yes you can use scratchX after you waxed it. Remember you have to carve out a small section, and you have to be pretty agressive. It may take several applications. You also will want to wax again the areas where you use scratchX.

My story might help you out a bit... Im in the same situation as you pretty much. I do all my application and removal by hand until I get my PC.

I am 17 and I started my detailing buisness about a month ago and I almost quit my job at starbucks becuase I can make a months pay in about 6-8 hours. The first day I made $325 detailing a white suburban. It was in pretty bad shape on the interior but I stuck it through. For your proccess you should change it up a bit. (ALSO CHARGE MORE! ) Try this process: Wash (TOP TO BOTTOM! From the roof down. Otherwise your washing dirt onto the clean lower part!), clay, polish, glaze, rinse, wax, trim detail, windows, wheels and tires, exhuast

Its quite simple and it works great. Contact me ina pm if you need any help. $50 an hour is good pricing.

I do have to say $50 is a little cheap for the job, but i can understand your price point because you are just getting into it. I really started doing detailing last year after we moved from FL to GA, but i was able to make a decent amount of money for a detail. I actually had a summer job because of my detail work, and by no means is it as good as those with a DA on here, but when you do a good job, it will get you places.

So basically im saying just work on it and you'll keep improving. One thing i did notice in your steps though, i would not recommend cleaning the wheels first then using that water to clean the rest of the car. Clean the car from top to bottom and then the wheels.

                  Highly recommend for beginner detailers:

A REAL Lambswool washmitt. You'll know its real because it has leather on the inside. Lambswool turns all slimy when mixed with soap and water, thus it is super slick and soft when gliding across the paint, minimizing micromarring.

A G-100 (PC) Dual Action Polisher with (1) w9006, (2) w8006, and (1) w7006 pads. Use M80 and M83 cleaner polishes with the w8006 pads, apply waxes with the w9006 pad, and remove waxes with the w7006 pad with a Gold Class Microfiber bonnet.

A separate bucket + brush for rims/hubcaps, wheel wells, and tires.
Proud owner of the finest looking car in the parking lot.
Switch to Linux. Use energy efficient lightbulbs and appliances. Keep your car well maintained and drive easy to save gas. Eat less fast food. Call your mother and tell her you love her. Try flying a kite. Read a wikipedia article daily. Use Meguiar's.
