  • dark to light?

well i sent a private message to mike and he responded with the info i need but let me pose the question to everyone on the site. The site was built for everyone so sorry mike for not coming here first. I just went from an 05 audi A4 to a 07 audi Q7. The a4 was black now the Q7 is light bluish grey. so my question was how do i achieve the same results i had with the black car as i do with the new metallic light color? So thanks guys in advance for the help!!!!

    Re: dark to light?

You detailed your black A4 using the full 5 step process, etc? Either by hand or machine... What products did you use?

If you got your process down for that black car, and it looked perfect, then the exact same process will work for the light car. As you suspect, you might not get the same depth, etc with a light car, but the best you can do is going to be all you can do.

There is an interesting article on white paint over at autopia. "Lessons from White Paint" I believe it is called, by Mike Phillips.

This article has more to do with the reality that paint gets dirty but a lot of people never see this due to the reasons outlined in the article.

      p.s.

We added the hillips to your mention of our name because Mike Pennington tends to go by Mike P. while I go by Mike Phillips so there's no confusion.

thks mike put it the same way. I use the dc with 80, #7, either nxt or 26 for the black car. the only difference that i thought would come into play was the black car was not metallic and the new on is, what ya think

Anytime you're working on a clear coated car, the ultimate goal will be to have the most defect free finish, the clearest clear coat, (to see the color underneath), and the smoothest surface possible to attain the maximum gloss possible, (gloss is produced initially by smoothness).

So to take your car's finish to it's maximum potential, you want to,
            • Remove any above surface contaminants to maximize gloss and insure great wax adhesion
            • Remove any below surface defects by using the appropriate paint cleaner
            • Use the best products over all and especially your choice of LSP to maximize clarity

You can do all of the above with products from both Meguiar's Consumer Line and Professional Line. The PC/G100 will produce better results than you hand while taking less time, energy and effort.

So wash your car, inspect for bonded contaminants, if discovered, clay your car's paint. Inspect for swirls and scratches, if discovered, use the appropriate paint cleaner or cleaner/polish to remove these. Then apply two thin coats of your favorite wax or paint sealant.

              Thanks!

The Mike P thing is no big deal except for posterity and to avoid confusion, there's like 4-5 "Mikes" here at Meguiar's and at least two of us that are active on this forum.
