I Now Cut The Paint Now What Should I Do...

Well I just cut the paint on my 78 Caprice Classic Landau, I only did the roof, hood, and trunk becuase those were the only spots what were oxidized. The car has an Acrylic Enamel paint job. The color of it is Carmine red.

I used 3M Perfect-It lll Rubbing Compound, right after that I applied 2 coats of Simoniz 100% Carnuba wax. It was pretty shiny! and I really want it to stay this way.

So the very next day I went to my local RONDEX store and picked up #20 Meguiars Polymer Sealant I then applied two coats of that.

Now the guy at Rondex said I don't need to wax over the sealant. But other people said I did, so I decided to put 1 coat of Simoniz 100% carnuba over the sealant, turned out nice! but I want it to stay nice and glossy like it is right now!

I had the car Proffessionally cut before but he did a terrible job and I saw the oxidation come back the very next day. The "pro" told me to just put a coat of wax on and it would be good for years . Yeahhhhh righhhhhtt!

So the question is...when I waxed over the sealant is there still sealant under that 2 coats of wax?

Also I wouldn't mind trying to get it even glossier! what kind of Meguiars wax product can I use to make it an outstanding gloss!

Remember it's not a Clear Coat Paint job.

Depends on what you topped the sealant with. Pure wax with no cleaners pobably just layered the product, if believe in such. Some people don't buy into layering of products.

There are many options for you. ColorX seems to work well for non clear coat finishes. I'd also recommend a polish before sealant like #7 show car glaze which was original designed for single stage paint. You could try #81 hand polish. It's easier to remove than #7.

Looks good... First take a look at your product inventory. Then read the following for ideas of products that you don't have. Performing all the steps would be great but are limited by the amount of time and $$ you want to invest. Your inventory might include products that should do the same as Meguiar's but isn't Meguiar's. That should be ok to use with meguiar's. For example if you already have a paint polish of another brand that would be ok to use if its still in good shape. Don't feel I saying to by all these products, these are what I as a Meguiar's customer use.

I've found that gloss isn't in the wax as it's more so in the steps to prep before wax..

Are there still any minor paint defects in the paint?? Like swirls or cob webbing? If so the a swirl remover (scratchX or #9 swirl remover by hand you mentioned) If not then I'd go clay, cleaner (Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner of Deep crystal cleaner), Polish (DC step 2, #7 or #81), then sealant (you mentioned #20 I think)for durability or carnauba if you like to wax every 4-6 weeks. Carnauba isn't too durable. I think you mentioned the car is garage kept which will help. The I'd quick detail to remove dust and maintain shine between washes.

Thoughts?? Is this on the right track???

For swirls not sure if scratchX would cut SS paint so I'll wait for someone else to 2nd that. Check out this thread about scratchX application and use Scratchx thread

Don't forget the paint cleaner. Polish. Then wax to your hearts content. There is some point where after a few coats your not layering anymore. It goes back to the layer thing. Some say wax can layer others say no layering. I do two coats NXT then I might top with #26 hi tech yellow wax. I'd recommend 2 coats #20 to ensure even coverage.

Okay let's get a list going here haha little confused:P

1. strip the wax right? use Dawn I am assuming
2. --#9 Swirl Remover
3. Paint Cleaner
4. --#81
5. --#20
6. Carnuba Wax 2-3 times.

1. I don't normally use dish washing liquid to remove waxes...

2. Cleaner first aplly then remove wet.. when dry its tough to remove. This step will help remove old wax.

3. If you have minor paint defects then #9 swirl remover or scratchx (#9 might be hard to find locally, scratch X is pretty easy to find). I'd wait for more advice on scratchX though.

4. If no defects require repair then polish.

5. After polish 1 or 2 coats of #20. Please allow about 24 cure time before 2nd coat of anything.

6. After #20 you could try carnauba topper and see if you notice a difference.

Your wax or sealant will be the protective step.

So get a good Meguiars washing product, then a Scratch X which will be the cleaner then clay bar, then the polymer sealant, then the wax right?
