  • Just got some M16!

So the quest for the holy grail is over. I finally acquired a can of M16. I'm still not sure I really needed this for my silver car but when you are a Meguiar's freak you cannot go through life without a can of M16.
I applied a very thin (at least I thought it was thin) coat to my trunk and hood today 'cause I couldn't wait to play with it and boy was it hard to remove. The surface is perfect with a couple of coats of 21 and NXT spray wax on it. It seems like it takes a long time to dry. I did the swipe test after about a half an hour and it still didn't seem ready to remove. Anyway, do you guys have any more suggestions? Should I apply with PC next time? I used a Megs foam applicator pad since I was doing a fairly small area.

I haven't used M16 wax, but as dar as i've read, it's very similar to 3M's perfect it showcar paste wax.

you can try pushing your finger to the wax in the can and see it's harder to make a hole in it than if you tried that in a cleaner wax or gold class can of wax. so the wax content in these ones it lots! :S that's why you can wax and wax and wax and wax and still see like if the can was in like new condition.

my suggestion would be to rub your pad very lightly to the wax and spread it very thinly. If you start to put the wax and you see the layer you're putting looks like if you were applying a layer of cleaner wax or gold class, spread it the most you can. wax all the car, give like 15 minutes to dry, and then try the swipe test. if it passes, go on. if it doesn't pass but you want to remove it, use a microfiber towel.

the first time I used the 3M wax for a demonstration, I had lots of trouble removing it with a terry cloth towel, but the microfiber towel they gave me (scotchgard microfber towel) took off the wax like magic! so you could try having some of those in case you struggle again with the M16.

just reminding again: aplly it very thin (that you can barely see any wax layer being put)

    Hope this helps

Yes, your car is perfectly prepped, no doubt about it and I expect nothing less from you Cindy!! Still, if 16 was hard to remove it was either applied too thick or this cold weather we've been having might have something to do with it. As Chex says, you need to apply this almost invisibly thin, which is why a tin of 16 will last a very long time. Sign up for the Jan 27 Open Clinic and we'll show you how thin thin is supposed to be.

I bet it was probably too thick. I could see it on the car after it dried. It seems hard to get it thin with hand application, maybe PC is the way to go. I am going to try to make it to the Jan 27 class but I have to work that day. May only be able to get in for the morning part. See ya'

Congrats on snagging yourself a classic Cindy!

I have to agree that #16 can sometimes be difficult to apply thin enough by hand, especially to a small area. I wouldn’t be surprised if the pad picked up enough to do a whole hood. The cold weather probably didn’t help.

That still seems too thick. I can get it to pass the swipe test in about 15 minutes in 45 degrees F. You really have to put it on so thin you can't see it when applied otherwise you are just wasting product. Precious #16

I guess you're right because when my #16 dried, I could see it dry to a haze, and not dry clear, that would be too thick?
