  • Sandwich Anyone??

Has anyone sandwiched polish and wax?

After my fiasco with the ground water that left spots etched into the paint, I decided to try it. I had already done the boot and roof and decided to sandwich the polish and wax on the hood and see how it turned out and how well it does.

After using ScratchX, I put 2 coats of Show Car Glaze, then 1 coat of GC Wax, 1 coat of NXT Wax another coat of Show Car Glaze and another coat of GC and NXT.

It looks great and I am wondering how well it go, I don't know if it will improve protection or not but at least it kept me busy

Oh and by the way the color of my car is Rose Red

Wow.........how long did that process take!!??!??!

How did you finally manage to get rid of the water spot etching, and was it really etching or just nasty, stubborn mineral deposits?

As for whether you'll realize any added durability or protectability (yeah, I made it up, so? ) I couldn't tell you. But hey, you never know until you try, right? Keep us posted and tell us what you think.

Just the hood took me 5 hours. The water spots were etched in, I used scratchx and a lot of elbow grease. I lost count of how many passes I had t do before I got it all out.
As far as protection goes, it will be interesting to see how it holds up.
I was really angry about the spots and by doing it this way at least I can get rid of some frustration

WOW! Now that's reflection and depth. Amazing job. If Australia wasn't such a far drive I'd have you do mine.

I'm happy to hear the water spots came off.

What a mirror finish, great work. I always find it amazing what determination and PASSION can do for all our paint finishes. Keep up the great work.

              Re: Sandwich Anyone??

"Sandwiching" polish in between wax layers (or on top of one) can improve the depth and reflection but doesn't add any additional protection (as it's a pure polish).

However I think you're a bit wasting products here. I think it would've been enough to put down two layers of NXT, #7, Gold Class and perhaps #7 on top but it will be gone after your first wash so I wouldn't top the GC with #7 if it's not a real show car or needs concours status.

Nice work though - love the reflection and it sure kept you busy - doing the hood in about the time it would take to do the whole car
