  • Car got keyed!!! Help!!!

    Hello all,

I woke up this morning after staying overnight at a friend's house to find the two passenger side door panels keyed. This is my car that I have been upkeeping religiously with Meguiar's products and this was devastating! I have read some posts already regarding how to fix this, or what might work, and I was wondering if anyone might help me with the following questions:

    - I currently have a paint touchup bottle from the factory that I was thinking about using, but if I use touchup paint will I need to do wet sanding to make it even?

    - I had thought about using factory base coat and clear coat from

Edit: Commercial Link Removed. - Mike Phillips (please read and follow the forum rules so we don't have to remove commercial links, thank you.)

to repair a bumper scratch before, and since I have a spray gun (fine), I was wondering if I could use the spray method to fill in the paint into the scratches instead of the touchup brush method to achieve a smoother finish?

    - I have every Meguiar's product, including rotary and orbital buffer which I am now proficient using... I was thinking of using rotary with product to "blend in" the sprayed paint. Will this work?

If anyone has a better solution or any solution I am all ears... The scratches are not long enough (I don't think) for the insurance company to pay for it (my deductable will be higher most likely), and I am leary about sending my car out to be refinished. Please help! Thanks all...

Start with the least aggressive first, i.e. the polisher, then move up the ladder.

Or just grab your own key and make it long enough for insurance to cover.

How deep is the scratch? Fingernail catch, visible primer, etc.

there are several scratches of different depth, which consists of ones I know I can remove with my rotary, and some that are nail catchers and showing a white color.

Just my opinion, but it looks like you are going to need some paint work.
It probably would be worth your while to contact your insurance agent and discuss the problem. I think it would be covered under your comprehensive as vandalism. You would still have to pay the comp. deductible, but that's usually a lesser amount than your collision deductible. They may allow several dollars for repairing some of the damage by polishing. If you do the polishing yourself, you might end up with a few bucks to apply against the deductible.

Causing more damage yourself to get it covered is fraud, illegal, and just plain wrong.

I have a detailing company I usually take my boss' cars to for major fixer uppers and resale purposes, I will take it to him to see what he might be able to do.

I will definitely file a letter of complaint to the Homeowners Association where my car was damaged... The community was gated (in Tustin) so I am thinking it was one of my friend's neighbors' kids. Just no respect whatsoever...

I know what you mean. My car was hit and scratched by some pos who doesn't care about anyone's property. The car was parked on the street curb in my neighborhood. When I went out to wash it that night, this is what I found. Guess what? No note, no evidence, nothing - just a few big dents, creases, and some paint burns that won't come out.

Anyways, silver is a hard color to match with touch-up paint, however you may want to try. Someone else had some big key marks and posted the before and afters in the "Wet-Sanding" section. He did an excellent job of posting pics and the process.

Good luck getting it fixed. Unfortunately, my insurance is sky high already even though I have no prior accidents or tickets, EVER!!! So the odds of getting the insurance company to fix this are zero, cero, zip, nada, etc.

People like that have no respect for vehicle's. This is a picture of the rear corner panel of my car that got hit by another car door. It's fixed now. The only thing is they had to remove the decal that was on the car.
