  • Clean '07 C6 Corvette... What's Next?

Mike et al., I purchased an '07 Vette (Monterey Red Metallic) from the dealers lot. Hence, slight swirls and surface imperfections exist. As well as some leftover water marks that the claybar didn't remove. What's next? I know I have to get the surface perfect prior to any polish / wax, but what should I use? I hear 80, 82, 83, 21, Scratch X, A30 and now I'm confused... How do I best clean and protect the new Vette finish? Thanks in advance...

I just wanted to congratulate you on the new vette. Monty red is a beautiful color. Here's a thread I started a few months back and it should be very helpful.

              Re: Clean '07 C6 Corvette... What's Next?

The best and easiest way to put a swirl-free, show car finish on your Corvette is to invest in a G100/PC dual action polisher, 2-3 yellow W-8006 foam pads, some M80 Speed Glaze, a tan finishing pad and a wax of your choice.

We have not come across a newer Corvette with paint that wasn't so hard that it was easy to work scratches out of yet, so if this is the factory clear coat then you're going to be in for some work if you want to do this by hand.

By hand you're going to want to get 2-3 tubes of ScratchX and rub out sections about 12" square with a lot of passion behind the pad, kind of approaching your Corvette's paint like a patchwork quilt, doing one little section at at time with the ScratchX and then moving onto a new section next to it and overlapping into the previous section.

After you go all the way around the car with the ScratchX, then you can polish and wax or just wax and that will be a lot easier.

Make sure you clay the car after washing to be sure there are no bonded contaminants that you can feel or even not feel.

If it were ours, we would invest in the machine and make polishing paint for the rest of our lives easy and much faster with better results.
