  • Hand is faster than Machine?

I am the living proof. I used to do it all by hand, for some reason I did not like machines, wow has my opinion changed! But what amazes me is that I used to always take my time, use numerous microfiber towels and pads, and did the Meguiar's Step 1, 2, and Gold Class Wax. It worked great for years, until I bought a black car, which I love. That whole process took me about 6-8 hours to do on my Civic. For some reason I have got 16.5 hours into my Matrix counting washing time as well and the car still isnt done. The wax needs to be added this weekend. But I cannot believe it takes longer for some reason.

Maybe it is because I am really going at it, it's the first time I used a G100 so I am getting the paint back to where it needs to be so next time it won't take so long. Hopefully after this I can rest with just using 80 and NXT.

Yeah, the first couple of times with the pc, I made a whole weekend out of it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't because it was a more time consuming process, but because I was having a blast with it and drew everything out longer than necessary. I've sped things up considerably with experience and multitasking. Also, unless your car gets riddled with swirls between every wax, #80 probably isn't necessary every time. Consider a pure polish like #7.

Using a machine just makes it easier to do a better job. Detailing by hand is limited to the energy you can expend. Using an orbital allows you the opportunity to reinspect and remove minute defects you would have otherwise left alone.

I remember writing term papers on a typewriter years ago. I would use eraseable onion skin paper, then photocopy my work onto bond paper. If I wanted to erase more that one sentence, I didn't. That was my limit!

Then, I started using a Xerox computer (CPM operating system) and Wordstar software. It took me 3 times as long to write a paper because it was so easy to edit. So much for time savings!
