  • Help me with my shopping list...

I've decided to start out with an all Meguiars product line. I'll probably branch out here and there, but I figured this is as good a place to start as any. I've tried other products (some Meguiars, a little poorboys, etc.), but all of the choices have me a bit overwheled, so I thought I'd try simplifying things a bit and then start over from there.

I've got a Black 2006 Civic LX. I do have a PC 7336, so I'll need products that work well with a machine polisher. Knowing my personality, I probably won't be happy unless I'm using the professional products...I'm just strange like that. However, if you feel that the OTC stuff works just as well in some areas, then I'm certainly open to that.

My car has light swirl marks (big problem with black cars, obviously), but little paint damage otherwise. A few tiny chips on the hood, which I'll probably want to take care of eventually, although I'm sure they'll only be replaced by more once I do since this is a daily driver.

Anyway...if I were to just stock up and buy everything at once, what would you recommend?

    Thanks!

well if you have the 7336 PC it should work fine with ScratchX and the DC products, but since you want products from the professional line, you should get M80(speed glaze), #7(showcar glaze) and some M21(synthetic sealant). also make sure you buy3 to 4 pads (w8006 and w9006 pads) and keep some MFT's around to prevent unwanted swirls because of the cloths you're using to remove your product.
also check the G100 forum to grab some cool tips and recommended speeds.

    hope this helps

With out a doubt, you need #80. That will get rid of fine swirls and it has polish in it that will darken your paint. As for a final wax I prefer #26 on my black truck. I have pretty much all the waxes and sealants. But I really like #26 on black, it's so easy on and easy off too. Any other questions ask away!

        Thanks for the replies!

The M80 looks good. Hard to argue with that. Should that be the next step immediately after using a clay bar?

The #7 also seems nice, but it can only be done by hand, right?

Then, between the sealant and carnauba mentioned...sealant is better for protection, and carnauba is better for looks, right? If I decide on the #26, would it still help the final results if I used #7 before that, or would it just be overkill with no noticeable difference?

As for the polishing pads mentioned, I was thinking about departing from Meguiars for that and trying the Edge 2000 system. The quick release system and double-sided pads is very appealing.

What about the other more mundane items? Shampoo, tire stuff, interior products, etc.?

Oh, I meant to ask about the #26...do you use paste or liquid?

If you're trying to remove swirls and scratches by machine, then M80 is a time-proven winner.

No, M07 can be applied using an orbital polisher like the G100/PC

If you use M80 to remove the swirls, you probably won't see much of a difference to apply #7 because the M80 is fairly rich in polishing oils.

As for the Sealant vs Carnauba wax question, remember that Meguiar's doesn't make any waxes based off a single ingredient, all our waxes that contain Carnauba also contain other protection ingredients.

We'll let someone else answer this question as we only sell and recommend our pads.

NXT Car Wash or Gold Class Car Wash, if you like suds get the NXT Car Wash, if you want our top shelf car wash then get Gold Class Car Wash.

Tire dressing? Interior dressings? depends on what you want, try starting a new thread for specific questions...

Re: Help me with my shopping list...

As for the #7, I'd skip it. Like Mike said, if you are using the #80 I don't think you will see a difference by adding #7.

As for the liquid or paste, I have the liquid, only because I traded a friend a bottle of NXT for it. I would say it depends on how you are going to apply it. I enjoy applying a paste wax by hand. Maybe I'm weird! It's nice to have the liquid so you can apply it by machine.

I'm with Mike on the shampoo also.

Tire dressing, I use Endurance normal shine. Really depends on the look you want. Shine or no shine. And how much time you want to take to apply it. I apply it with a paint brush and it works great. Make sure to clean off the excess with a rag to avoid tire sling.

Interior dressing, I use Quik Interior Detailer, again I don't like much shine.

As for the pads, I use all Meguiar's for my 6.5" pads. I was all set to order some 4" edge pads. But on another forum I saw a post about someone that was working with one that ripped and the plastic insert in the center made a mess of the paint. Not a pretty picture. I'm sure it was a freak thing, but still.

                That was very helpful, thanks!

So, after M80, the #7 won't add much if anything. That's interesting...I've heard so many people say that you should do a cleaner polish followed by a pure polish...

I've used Gold Class Shampoo, and do like it quite a bit although I've never tried anything else. What's the difference between that and the professional shampoo...#62, I think?

I may check out Endurance for the tires...I want something that gives a shine and lasts a decent about of time. Right now I'm using a Poorboy's product that looks nice, but doesn't last much longer than a day or so.

You can try it and see it it makes a difference on your car. I can't tell any difference on my truck after M80. I tried the #7 in a small area on a older maroon car to see if it would bring the color out better and it worked. But then I did the car with M80 and it did the same darking. I tried #7 after the M80 and couldn't tell the difference. So in my experence #7 is great and works, just that M80 does pretty much the same thing.

#62 is some good shampoo, I don't use it. It has a chemical smell to it. I've been using Super Soap now, but I'm going to be switching over the Shampoo Plus. I don't like the cherry cough syrup smell of Super Soap... lol

Endurance lasts along time. The stuff is amazing. There is regular shine and high shine. I try to apply it every two weeks and it always looks good. Apply it, let it sit for 20 mins or so, then wipe off the excess.
                  Hope that helps!
