  • '96 4runner clear coat?

I just used Gold Class Liquid wax from one of the Meg's xmas gift kits on my black hood after claying.. I also used a little ScratchX in a test spot and the door handle spaces. Saw a little black on the ScratchX cloth, and more black on the applicator pad for the wax. Is this factory paint clear coat?

Ronniejay, from what you're telling us it sounds like a single stage. Double check with the manufactuer about it being clear coated or not from the factory. If it's a used car and your the second owner chances are it's been repainted with single stage paint.

If you're pulling pigment, especially if you're pulling lots of pigment anywhere your work then you have a single stage paint.
