  • how thick is a layer of wax?

with all of this talk of paint thickness gauges and measuring the paint after you have polished.

has anyone compared the thickness just after polishing in comparison to after waxing?

    would be interesting

I have been wondering that myself.

Read over this thread: How much paint are you removing., it show various steps and might help answer your question.

I have never heard of any way to measure the thickness of a layer of wax. I think if there were, whoever has the product that builds up thickest, would have done it to lord it over all the other mfrs. Honestly, some of us have speculated about the "molecules thick" layer...perhaps someone has looked at a wax layer with a SEM (scanning electron microscope) and counted the molecules...

Mr Barry knows best! About 5min. into the video (link below) he talks about a Spectrum Gloss Analyzer, maybe that's probably the closest you can get to estimating "wax thickness"...but it's just a guess!
