Long-time lurker, first-time poster~!
Sorry to be the "newb" but I really need some sound advice:
I have a BLACK '02 Nissan Maxima.
The Paint on this car has been cared-for very well considering it has not been garaged in it's 4.5 years.
I have ALWAYS kept a good layer of Carnuba (meg. Gold) wax on the surfaces, and done the Meguiar's Three step process at least twice per year, and I meticulously wash the car at least once per week regardless of weather. I also use a clay bar whenever necessary. I have been using a cheap ORBITAL polisher thus far, with both terry and foam pads, and it has done an adequate job keeping the paint in decent condition. HOwever- I would like it to be MUCH BETTER.
The paint on these cars is notoriously THIN, and will scratch and chip VERY easily. I have some light to moderate swirling but mostly I have alot of water deposits and etching from acid rain (Georgia Sun) on the horizontal surfaces that I cannot remove with my Orbital Polisher and the 3-step Meguiar's products.
To this point, I have assumed that I need a Hi-Speed Polisher in order to remove the swirls, etching, and water spots on the horizontal surfaces. However, after reading ALOT of info on this forum, I'm wondering if the same can be accomplished simply by using the Professional Series products, such as MEguiar's #83 & #80???
I have access to a Hitachi Sp-18VA 7" Rotary polisher/sander but I am VERy reluctant to use it, as I have NEVER used a hi-speed rotary before.
Here's my question:
Do I need to use a hi-speed polisher such as the -G100, or a Rotary Hi-speed such at the Hitachi unit to remove these imperfections..... OR, is it possible to remove these imperfections simply with the proper FOAM PADS and PROFESSIONAL MEGUIAR'S PRODUCTS (#83/80) with my cheapo Orbital buffer??!!
I'd prefer NOT to have to buy a new G100, since I already have access to the Hitachi - but again, I'm affraid of that thing, since my car is black - and I have NO experience operating a Rotary - AND I'm not certain that I truly NEED to use a hi-speed polisher to achieve the results I'm looking for.
Please guys - Help me out.
I appreciate your time.
Rgds,
Nate
