  • Cheap plastic + Meguire's Wax = Discoloration?

    Hi everyone,

I applied some Meguiars Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax Paste ( http://www.meguiars.com/?paste-car-w...-Car-Wax-Paste ) yesterday and some of it got onto a cheap, rough plastic(?) piece dividing the painted door and the window. (This piece is in the picture below, right where the number "12" in the date stamp is) Now the piece is spotted and stained white - does anyone know how to clean it up/off?

    TIA!!

You can use Meguiars #40 vinyl & rubber cleaner / conditioner.
I use it on all exterior trim and it works great!

      First Welcome to MOL!

In addition to #40 there is also this: #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner and for a little extra cleaning use a soft bristle brush and give a gentle scrub.

I have used and had good luck with.... If you have some type of Quick Detailer(Quik Detailer or similar) handy now you might try it with a small soft bristle brush or a 100% cotton terry towel.

I also drive a new Mustang and did the same thing in the exact same place. I used an old tooth brush and some 409... being careful not to let the 409 streak anywhere. I sprayed the 409 directly onto the brush and scrubbed with small strokes while holding an MF underneath for drips. It worked great. Now I am more careful with my wax!

This issue is why some people prefer to tape components off instead of risking accidentally getting polish or wax onto them.

How to tape off a car

Besides M40 as suggested we make a dedicated vinyl/rubber cleaner called M39 Vinyl cleaner.

Spray some of this onto a terry cloth towel and then gently massage the area using a combination of the towel and something like a toothbrush. Then after cleaning apply a dressing like Gold Class Trim Detailer.

          Hope this helps...
