  • What is the proper way to store clay?

I got a Quick Clay kit that came with a plastic "travel soap box". Is it ok to just put the clay back in there or does clay dry out?

I would guess it's very important to keep any dust or debris off but how about moisture.

    Thanks.

Yep, that will work. Just spray a little QD on it and stick it in the box.

      Here's a quote from Meguiar's...

"Clay needs to be stored in a cool, dry place in order to keep it clean and fresh. Between claying sessions, we recommend storing your clay in the plastic case provided in our Smooth Surface Clay Kit. Simply mist the clay with Meguiar's Quik Detailer, place the piece of remaining clay in the storage container, and close the lid tightly. Be sure to keep that container in a cool, dry location."

I didn't get that when I bought mine
I just put it in a plastic bag ad keep it in the cupboard with my other stuff.

Has anyone tried to put it in the plastic container and then in a foodsaver bag to keep the air out?

I do that - the box. We don't get the plastic box here?

If the piece is reusable,I spray it and then wrap it tightly in clingfilm. An air tight zip baggy would probably be the best.

Yeah, I spray a little QD in a zip-loc baggy, and keep the clay in it.

You get the little box in the new Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

Store it in a ziploc bag. A couple squirts of last touch and put it back in the container.

I keep mine in the container that the Mild Blue Detailing Clay comes in with a few squirts of QD. I empty the QD every month or so if I don't use the clay and I'll spray some more QD in it.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                        Remove swirls my friends.

I kept some of the white clay in a baggie sprayed with QD. I had a shoulder operation and haven't been about to do anything detail-wise for a few months.
I looked at the clay the other day and it had areas of mildew on it.
                            Had to throw it out.
