  • Clear coated wheels?

I saw something about this in another thread but I didn't want to take it off topic, so I created a new thread. I was just wondering, what do you do with clear-coated wheels? I've always just washed them until a few weeks ago, when I tried NXT All Metal Polysh. After reading that thread, and thinking for a second, I realized the metal polish isn't even coming in contact with the metal, so the only reason it looked somewhat better is because the metal polish was acting as a paint cleaner (at least I think so...is that true?). If that's the case, what should I use for my clear-coated wheels? Should I just treat them as I treat the paint? Thanks!

I treat them like paint. I clay and scratchX them then wax.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

Ditto. Waxing helps with brake dust removal later on too, as long as you don't let it cake on for three months. But nobody here does that......right?????

I treat them like paint also. I clean with #80 and then wax.

Wheel sealants are supposedly longer lasting than wax for wheel applications. They are designed to withstand heat better(regurgitated from endless reading). I for one, would like someone to prove that wax is every bit as good as a wheel sealant. Although I've never used wheel sealant, I think treating coated wheels as you would the paint finish is the way to go. When I get some #21, it will go on my rims as an experiment.

I also just treat them as I do the paint.

I treat as painted area also using #80, #7, LSP #21 which really POPS the wheels. When the tires and wheel wells are dressed...oh my so pretty.

I used NXT All Metal Polish on these rim's. Then I would apply wax over it.
