  • Correct application of NXT Liquid Wax

    Hi,

I am new to this "detailing stuff" but since buying a black Audi it has become a necessary skill.

    I have just completed a rigorous polishing process (its a Xmas thing) where I keep the car in the garage and have done the followng;
    • 2 bucket wash with micro fibre mitton
    • fine cut swirl remover M-0216 with an orbital - microfibre buff
    • swirl remover 2.0 M-0916 with an orbital - microfibre buff
    • show car glaze 7 with an orbital - microfibre buff
so my questions is now Im applying NXT tech wax by hand, how long do I leave it on the car before I rub it off with a microfibre?

and, should I reapply and when?

and, how long should I wait till I apply the next coat...weeks, months?

    Your help would be appreciated!!

Re: Correct application of NXT Liquid Wax

    First off welcome to MOL!

I think to start with your 2nd and 3rd steps
    • fine cut swirl remover M-0216 with an orbital - microfibre buff
    • swirl remover 2.0 M-0916 with an orbital - microfibre buff
is kind of questionable, what is the condition of your paint? Pictures would help a lot, but I'm really no expert here compared to some of the or most of the other members here at MOL specially the 2 Mike P's from Meguiar's. The bigger question here is, are steps 2 and 3 right in terms of application? are you using the right Technique, Pads, Machine, etc. I may be wrong, but from what i have read and learned in MOL in the short time that i have been a member steps 2 and 3 are kinda questionable. That is just my opinion, but don't worry I'm sure Mike will chime-in within the day. Now for your question about the frequency of application of the NXT Wax, there are a lot of variables to consider like how often you use your car, if you are parked in a garage, if you live near a coastline, how often do you wash the car, what is the whether condition where you use your car, the color of your car, the list goes on and on. Some would apply NXT wax every month some would do it every other month it really depends. But if your question is about how long should you be letting it cure before applying a second coat i would say 12-24 hours would do it, as for applying the wax just apply a THIN coat to the entire car and let it dry, you can also do the swipe test to make sure when its time to wipe it down, just swipe your finger to an area that you have waxed and if it comes off effortlessly then its time to wipe it down. In my experience by the time I'm done with applying the wax to the entire car i can start wiping down where i first started applying the wax or you can wait for another 10 or 20 minutes before wiping it down with a microfiber towel. I think the best guy to answer all your queries is Mike. Take it away Mike.......

Allow the wax to dry until it swipes clear, then remove.

first off if i remember correctly you said your car was black?
if so may i suggest you go with the GC, i use both GC & NXT in the paste form of course, but NXT takes a long time to swipe ive found overnight to be the best wait time, actually for both of them. GC on the dark colors

We've worked on literally hundreds of cars at our Saturday classes, and we're under short time constraints to demonstrate a product as it's supposed to be used, this would include applying a wax, allowing it to dry, checking with the swipe test and then removing so approximately 30 people watching live can learn how to do this.

When we apply the wax using a thin coat, it never takes more than 20 minutes tops to dry and usually it only takes about 10 minutes and that's pretty certain if applied using the G100

So when someone posts that it's taking overnight for a coat of wax to dry, that's usually an indicator they're using too much.

It can take longer when it's cold and humid outside, but in normal temperatures, a thin coat of any of our waxes should only take about 15 to 20 minute to dry till it swipes clear. Our chemist actually formulate for these time periods, not hours.

You can do what you want in your detail business, but as a company, we don't want people to read threads like this and then leave thinking they have to leave our waxes on their car's paint overnight in order to dry. This just isn't true when they are correctly applied.

no disrepsect intended, but this is whats best for me. I intentionally leave it on overnight, and maybe just for me, but it works best. IM sure you guys know whats best
              again no disrespect intended

Re: Correct application of NXT Liquid Wax

                Thanks everyone for your responses

Just to give your some background on why I had taken the approach interms of my detailing process.

The products I can buy here in Australia is limited so I have to make do with what I can get...not the same product range as in the US

The car itself I bought from an Audi dealer, and was an ex Audi executive car which had only done 2,500km. However, it had been abused in that it had been through the car wash and been severely scratched. Beacause of this it has taken me a long time to get it swirl and scratch free...heaps of hours and a lonely wife!!

The car is not a garage car and does about 25,000km per year.

I ve have attached pics of the latest 3 day marathon session. All of which is done in a garage in the summer warmth of Australia.

Ive never had a black car before.......GEEZ its hard work !!!!

In the pics there are some white dots on the paint this is the evil dust that shows on black cars no matter where they are garaged.

                cheers

ps. I would appreciate any comments as my wife things im a nutcase and wonders what all the fuss is about...thanks

Re: Correct application of NXT Liquid Wax

The longest that I have waited for NXT to 'dry' is an hour and a bit. It was about 5 degrees (celsius) outside.

Good work with the paint, btw, black is a good learning paint because it'll show that you're using improper techniques very easily.
